Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Fresh Air

 🎄🎄🎄 🎄

Several blog friends have queried the results of the Oven Cleaning process that I mentioned in my last post .  Here's my feedback:

The results were good!

You will see I didn't indicate very good as there were still some grubby bits in the corners of the oven. After wiping off all the paste and wiping it out several times more it took a scourer to get rid of those bits especially on the glass door. I didn't have to use too much effort with the scourer though it all came off straight away. This could have been because I have left it quite a bit longer this time before giving the oven a thorough clean so those grubby bits were super resistant to the baking soda. However, I also think it could be because the baking soda Sr P bought was the cooking type of soda and I usually buy a domestic cleaning baking soda which I think is a bit stronger.  Nevertheless the oven is shiny and clean now!   On the negative side it is a messy job as the baking soda gets everywhere. On the positive side dumping all the used up paste into my stainless steel sink and wiping it around the sink and rinsing it away made my sink nice and clean and shiny too.

I would use this method again.👍

Out in the fresh air

This is where we went Sunday morning for our usual outing; quite near to home.

The Clot de Galvany is a small but interesting and beautiful nature reserve situated near the Carabassi beach. In this eco-friendly nature reserve you can see lots of different kinds of birds mostly ducks, storks, herons and occasionally flamingos.

Yes...that's me! You can see by my stance I don't like having my photo taken!

Hunting in El Clot de Galvany reserve is totally forbidden so this nature reserve is a real paradise for rabbits, squirrels and also hedgehogs and quite possibly foxes. It really depends at what time you go there to be able to see any of this wildlife.

There is a small information centre

and also a picnic area which has gained in popularity recently due to Covid. Many families hold birthday parties there.

We just wander around when we are there,

no set route really but the Charco de Contacto pond is usually a must to see the ducks or if we are lucky the flamingos too.

There are well-marked trails which lead further through the reserve.
Route 1 goes through both natural and artificial ponds. Along the way you come across observation points where you can observe the aquatic animals in peace.

Route 2 goes in the direction of the Cabeco-Carabassi Hills which surround El Clot de Galvany. It is a lovely walk through palm trees, pine trees, and you can catch a whiff of thyme, lavender and rosemary as you walk along that route. You get a better view of the mountains and the wetlands there too.

I recently heard that some archaeological remains have been found of a Roman Farm in this part of the park. We didn't get that far during our walk but hope to see the site another time.

  8. Thank you for the feedback about the oven cleaning process I always find that which ever method you use you always have those stubborn bits that need just a bit more attention, you look lovely in the photo and I hate having my picture taken as well, I'll look at it and think who is that old woman! videos are even worse and my kids just love taking them! That looks like a lovely place to visit I would love a stroll around there, I'm struck by the lovely bright sunny photos it seems to be constantly dull and grey here. Your Bakewell tart looks perfect and there's going to be two of them wow. I haven't even given a thought as to what to bake yet if anything. Have a lovely Christmas. xx

    1. Your comments Linda make me feel better about the oven clean results not being perfect 🤨 I am inclined to agree with you it is practically impossible to get rid of the stubborn bits. I find putting the trays in the dishwasher on a hot wash helps although I usually have to give them a final scrub with a scourer. A x
