Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Makes and Makes

Firstly I'd like to welcome some lovely new followers Maria @ Rosey Tinted Spectacles , ? @ Pretty Shabby UK and Magie @ Teacups & Bunting...thank you so much for popping in and I look forward to your comments.

As mentioned in a previous post recently I've been rather morose and lacked motivation where my crafty inclinations are concerned and been stuck in a bit of a mire of uncertainty
(love that description!!! how are you feeling today darling? not so bad love... in a bit of a mire of uncertainty...you know!)  .

Its very unsettling as I do need to have something to look forward to craftywise that's an important part of my quality time and my de-stress therapy. I am lost without it.
Blogging is partially to blame and YOU out there who make such lovely lovely things and distract me and make me impatient and make me long to start something new and,and,and.....yes ok excuses excuses!!!!

My DEcision
I have decided that I'm going to start several projects at the same time and when I get bored of one I'll turn to the other and turn back to the first one when I get bored of the one I turned to and so on....... emm..... did you get that?

So here are my new makes underway :
1.An Afghan throw
I've already completed the centre piece I added my favourite popcorn stitch on the tips ...gives it that little something extra.

the rest will be mutlicoloured squares contrasting with these colours and the throw will be finished off with a black edging all done in DK using a 5.50 hook.  I am not following any pattern, I'll go with the flow and what I have in my head.

and then the turn to project is the following:
I started this awhile back to put on a towel but it got put to one side when the crochet addiction took over. I think its going to be a sheet edging because I brought a nice new set of sheets but when I opened the packet and shook out the sheets I saw the edging on them and thought Yuk!!!...that has to go.

oh! and here's my little contribution to the food-cooking theme.
I do know how to cook but rarely do at present...I work and Sr P does the cooking at least usually but when I have a day off or days off I like to get the family together and make a meal for all.
Here you have lemon chicken marinating in white wine and ......looking at the time its got to go in the oven now! Its a Spanish recipe with a bit of  a la Amanda's own thing added.

Have a great weekend!!

.....and be good now

Amanda :-)

  1. I think that is a fine idea. I usually have at least one knitting and one crochet project on the go at all times for a bit of variety. Variety is the spice of life, or so they say.
    Have a great weekend,

    1. Hello Meredith
      Thanks for your comments.

I've always liked to finish one project before starting another but can't see to focus on that now

  2. Love the crochet star! I look forward to a progress report! I can't crochet but wish that I could! My problem with any project is that I start off too enthusiastically and give up far too quickly!
    Have a good weekend!

  3. I know what you mean about the blogging - sometimes its easier to drool over eveyones elses wonderful ideas and makes rather than knuckle down to your own, other times it acts as a kick up the rear and gets you going on a project.
Good idea to have more than one project on the go, then you can switch - i always have about 10 on the go - lol!
Loving the zing the white gives the warm colours in your crochet - is good sometimes to just go with the flow of ideas rather than a pattern.
Does that strip of aida have a special name and size? As I rarely cross stitch i find the range of names and sizes (thread count?)confusing and i would like to get some like that for trims and bookmarks. Is there a good online shop?
Have a great weekend Amanda, enjoy your dinner - looks good!

    1. How right you are Gill!

I brought that strip of Aida fabric several years ago but it didn't get used up. I brought it here in Spain and can't remember what they call it either but I can find out. As I recall you can get a smaller sized strip this one is 3 inch wide which might be a bit big for a bookmark.

  5. oh yes Amanda several projects to on the go is definitely a must to keep boredom at bay, it's funny I start out so full of enthusiasm at the beginning of a new project but I quickly get bored with it if I'm doing that one particular thing. I love the star such beautiful colours. I did used to love cross stitch but it makes my eyes sore to do it now. As for the chicken just let me know when it's ready I will be there like a shot, I'll bring dessert ha ha (if only) have a great weekend :)

  6. Hi Amanda I definitely recommend to keeping several things on the go at the same time, I do! The longest running one is a cross stitch we bought at a yard sale in USA when we were on honeymoon 4 years ago, it is about half finished! My eyesight isnt brilliant though for close up work so I get frustrated with it. Look forward to seeing all your finished projects.
