Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

The hurrier I go, the behinder I get

“The hurrier I go, the behinder I get.”
Lewis Carroll

This quote from Lewis Carroll pretty well sums up how I've been coping with daily life this last week.  I've multi-tasked and multi-tasked and still feel behinder!

Finishing my squares for the Bloggy Blanket Chain-August 12

These are the first squares that start another Bloggy Blanket Chain that is being hosted by Mum  at Mum's Simple Living blog When the blanket is complete it will be donated to a good cause.

I can't speak for the rest of the bloggers who are participating or who I hope will participate but I feel that although my few squares are but a drop in the ocean where helping people are concerned at least I feel I am doing something, so much more than just dropping a coin into a tin.
If anyone would like to help keep this chain going and crochet a square for a good cause (it need only be one) please pop into Mum's Simple Living blog here
I am convinced that the other participants will agree with me when I say I believe these squares are saying "you are not alone,WE care!"
Further more I'll echo what Arwedd so rightly said "I hope the end recipient feels all the love we bloggers sent along its journey"

The following squares are my contribution to the blanket and following on from the theme in a previous post ,I have designed these two squares myself for this purpose.
Both these squares are pretty straight forward and not too intricate, they are in fact, when you consider the multiple variations of motifs out there in the crochet world and new ones popping up continuously from creative crocheters, similar to others but not the same nor created by tweaking another design!

Double peak square

Six ring flower square

I have never written patterns before as I rely on samples for my patterns. However I am going to give it a bash and I'll be making up patterns for some of my designs in the near future.

Postal services has had me a bit stressed out these last few days as I waited for the bloggy blanket to get to me. However I finally received the parcel from Arwedd yesterday, safe and sound.
and there it was our bloggy blanket.

I rather like the idea that I am actually going to add my squares to the blanket myself and I get to see and hold the blanket too and not just send a few squares to someone.  However that is not all folks I had one of the most thrilling surprises and Arwedd may be thinking what's all the fuss about but I consider it absolutely wonderful that a person I hardly know who hardly knows me has altruistically thought about me sufficiently to pop into the bloggy blanket parcel a few goodies for me too!!!!!

and here you have the surprise GOODIES:

A lovely little handmade notebook ,a butterfly biscuit cutter, ribbons, shortbread (gone into hiding now) and ......... I must highlight these because I've never seen any like these before:

four of the most unusual wooden buttons....I just love them and already know where I am going to use them.             Wait and see!!!! :-)

At present the bloggers participating in this bloggy blanket chain are as follow:

Can't wait to see where you're going to put them! Hope you are enjoying the pool, we are up in to the high 30s today but it's not as bad as it was for a while there. Yvonne xx

  2. Granny Squares ! the first and only thing I am sure I had only crocheted.

  3. I just wrote up my first pattern, its harder to do than you think! Love your title...sub title should be "more haste less speed!" I only wrote out my pattern this morning because its started raining again and I can't paint outside woodwork. Well we had a whole 2 dry days, what should I expect?! Fiona x

  6. Hi Amanda, what lovely goodies! The blogging fraternity is very kind and generous and I think we can all feel proud of belonging in our own ways. I know exactly what you mean about multi tasking and feeling as if you are getting nowhere!! That sums up my last week.

  7. I've loved reading your post and seeing your squares for the Bloggy Blanket - thank you, thank you, thank you. This chain is taking on a new dimension which includes Bloggy love of sharing crafts and ideas. This Bloggy love will definitely be crocheted into the Bloggy Blanket. I do hope the chain carries on after Mummy Hen and we will be able to see the story of a well travelled blanket of original ideas, craft and love.
    Love from Mum

  8. Your squares are looking amazing, Amanda!

  9. What a fantastic idea Amanda.

It is so thoughtful of you, your Mum and your friends to do something like this.

I said it before and I will say it again
you are gifted being able to create something like that
and how kind of you to give something back.

Hope you have a great week.

I'm busy playing catch up on my favourite blogs.

Hope it isn't too hot for you over there
as I have heard that the temps are very high at the moment in Spain.

My husband is in Santander but it is cool (well not cool) 22 but
extremely manageable unlike some parts which have temps of 40 +

    Take care of yourself.

I will be back again soon.

  10. Your goodies wee delightful, how thoughtful of your blog friend..the blanket is going to be lovely...hope the pool was nice,it is cold and blustery here,a colder winter than the last few years so we can't complain, only a few more months and we will be hot like you are at present. Have a lovely week.

  11. I think you are doing very well, I haven't even learned to crochet yet! Ada :)

  12. Your phrase caught my eye because it was my mother's favorite to say to me! I always have more on my plate than seems feasible and push myself to extreme limits. I love your blog and so happy that I found you--a kindred spirit. XOXO

  13. Hi Amanda
Sorry not to have got back to you before. I wanted to enter your giveaway but for some reason blogger wasn't letting me join any blogs as a follower. I quite often subscribe to read blogs in google reader without actually remembering to become a public follower and that is what had happened with yours, so when it wouldn't let me join I deleted my post! I like your blog very much and now that blogger is working am a public follower as I intended.
What a lovely idea that blanket is, I think you are very clever to design your own squares, they're fab.

  14. I once had a boss who got so tired of hearing me say, "I'll get around to it" that he bought me a round button with the word TUIT on it. I was baffled but suddenly the light went on. I still say, "I'll get around to it." I guess some things never change. I feel like you. From the looks of my office, if I get anymore behinder, I'm going to meet myself. : ) Lovely post, dear Amanda. I was curious what 40 C translated to in Fahrenheit. Wow, 104?!?!?! You definitely need the pool. Have a great week.

    1. He he he that has made me chuckle....I think I've met myself many times now!!!

      A xx

  15. Oh yes, I get lots more behind the more I do, strange how that works!

    love Lori xx
