Inspirations
Inspired by Tammy's beautiful book-marker where she used a Palestinian traditional embroidery design, which you can view here on her blog T's Daily Treasures. and further inspiration that came from the stunning delicate embroidery on Poppy Patchwork's post and the gorgeous cross-stitch houses from Liz at Shortbread & Ginger . I have turned back to do some cross-stitching after years of not picking up a piece of Aida.
I thought I would start small and just do a simple book-marker for myself.
As you can see there are three suns and a star and I will do perhaps a star border around them and something perhaps on the end not quite sure what yet.
I wonder why I did suns perhaps it is because Summer officially started at the beginning of this week! On looking at it again I think it might be a bit too long so perhaps I will cut it after the third sun and make another one just of stars!

Doors
For those of you who are new to my blog I like to take photographs of old Doors you can read about it here
Sunday morning we went down to the city centre and my objective was to go to the San Nicholas cathedral...yes the one I mentioned in my last post. The doors there are beyond impressive and the cathedral, dating back to the 16th century, is an awesome monument. It is also like the gateway to the old quarter. If I want to take photos of Doors here in the city I know I have to go to the old quarter.
Unfortunately my plan was shattered as the plaza was packed with crowds of people ... wearing masks at least but not social distancing. I am crowd shy as it is and seeing people not respecting the restrictions which are still in force just made us turn around and walk away. Even so it was such a beautiful day that we went for a walk around and I took a few photos of the impressive luminous blue sky streaked with wisps of white.
A peek of the a top of the cathedral.
and one of my favourite places Carbonell house and the splendid walk past the port.
Happy blogging
Amanda :-)
Good morning Amanda, I always admire those of you that do cross stitch-too much math for me haha-Love your bookmark and I personally would not cut it-bookmarks look cool poking out the book top and bottom.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed seeing all of your crochet pieces sent around to many places. I like that you do many different forms of the crochet too just one thing.
Enjoyed all the photos-Happy wednesday hugs
typo just not one thing
DeleteHi Kathy, I wont cut it then LOL! I do get bored with my crochet if I repeat the same pattern again. I like to have an interval of a a year or so before I go back to a pattern. I am always looking for new things to crochet. A x
DeleteI hope all went well with the tests, and that you've recovered from your Covid jab.
ReplyDeleteLovely needlework of all kinds. I have a cross stitch project which I started 30 odd years ago on (I think) 18 count Aida. Now my eyesight isn't what it once was, I can only do a little at a time. So I guess it's a very long-term WIP! I love the photos of where you live. Another little mini-break! xx
Hello HH, The test was negative which was good however the problem continues so I have to go back to my GP to see what the next step is. I have had to put my cross-stitch to one side already! Request from a niece in NZ for a jumper for her babe has priority ... sigh! A x
DeleteI love your bookmark - really cheerful (and appropriate). I agree about sending your work around the world - I used to take part in blog swaps and have sent some of my felt pieces and jewellery to different countries. I hope their owners are still enjoying them. Your work certainly looks as though it is treasured.
ReplyDeleteYour city photos are beautiful - it is a very photogenic area and I enjoy exploring with you!
Best wishes
Ellie
Hello Ellie, thanks for calling in. It is always the same when I am making anything for myself. Along comes another request from a member of the family and my make for me gets put to one side! ... sigh! A x
DeleteI think that your bookmark is lovely as it is. I don't think I would cut it. As the happy recipient of your latest traveling piece of art, I love how you share it with others. I can see it every time I enter or leave the room and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're able to get out and around your city and I hope and pray things are all opened up soon.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Hello Betsy. We have been told we don’t have to wear masks outdoors now. A lot of people are still using the masks though as you still have to use them if you go in the store or meet up with a group of people. It is going to be hard to break the habit! I must say I am happy to share my makes with people who appreciate craft like yourself 😊. A x.
DeleteYour crochet can now be seen almost worldwide how great is that! all your makes are beautiful. I think the furthest distance my crochet has gone is Australia, a cape for a deceased friends granddaughter. Your bookmark is lovely have fun playing around with the design. Have you got your tests back yet? I hope all is well. You asked about my treadmill it's a XM-PRO II Elite and I bought it from prestige fitness. It's ok so far, the size is good for me but I think a tall person may struggle with the size of the walking platform. It's nothing like those you find in the gym but it does the job. Have a great week. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, Thank you for the treadmill details. I shall check it out and see if I can get it here. I am tallish so will have to check that out too. Tests came back negative which is good! :-) A x
DeleteAlways love sharing my crochet items. Was real good to see how far yours have travelled.
ReplyDeleteLove your bookmark Amanda. Nice to see you here again 😀😀
Hello Wendy, Thanks :-) Many thanks also for calling in and leaving a comment. A x
DeleteThe Sun baby takes the cake!! Awesome photos
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy. I must admit I was really pleased with Sun Baby and rather reluctant to send her off away from home :-) A x
DeleteBeautiful projects, I particularly love the table runner, stunning. Lovely to return to cross stitch, can be very therapeutic stitching, hope all went well with your procedure and you are feeling better xcx
ReplyDeleteThanks Chrissie :-) That table runner took me ages to do. One of my last big fine lace crochet makes. The test went well and results were negative which is good. I feel much the same though but at least I know I haven't got anything nasty in that part of my body. The Doctor has to send me for more tests. I so hope they will find out what is wrong soon. A x
DeleteI love how your crochet projects have traveled the world. Your latest piece for Betsy is gorgeous and looks wonderful in her new home. I cam a bit crowd shy myself, actually I am still full on mask wearing here although they are no longer required, I don't trust people or the virus, isn't that sad of me? Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHello Mere. Thanks you :-) We have been told we don’t have to wear masks outdoors now. A lot of people are still using the masks though as you still have to use them if you go in the store or meet up with a group of people. They said on the news this evening that 42% of the population has been vaccinated so we are gradually getting there...slowly!
