Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Here I am again.

Villajoyosa...old town

On the mend

Finally...!

Five months have whizzed by and I have so missed not blogging but even so I just couldn't find the impetus to write. It just wasn't in me!  As I mentioned in a previous blog post. I have a one tracked mind when something is worrying me so there was no room for anything else 😒

All I could think about were the numerous health issues that were bombarding me and the three ops I had pending.

I am now convalescing from the first and second op and waiting for the date of the third one. I am so relieved that I am on the mend now. As for the op which is pending it is just vascular surgery to get rid of some unsightly varicose veins and I am not worried about that.

All the same I have been lurking quite a bit here flittering from one blog to another keeping up-to-date with what you are all doing. Therefore this will not be a lengthy post as I want to start posting on all your blogs to let you know I AM BACK

Yesterday we finally returned to our Sunday outings routine and we decided to visit Villajoyosa. We haven't been there for quite sometime; years in fact. I call it the chocolate town as it is famous for its chocolate specially drinking chocolate. I am on a diet at present so I couldn't partake of their scrumptious hot chocolate this time but we have promised ourselves we will be going back soon to have some delicious "chocolate con churros".

Villajoyosa was at one time just a tiny fishing village but it has become very popular with the tourists and has grown considerably due to its proximity to Benidorm, a very busy and internationally well-known tourist resort.

Temptation and beyond from Mallorca

This is an ensaimada ........

Now...... you see my taste buds ,after all these years living in Spain, are still not up to the Spanish preferences for extra sweet icky cakes. I'm afraid they make me cringe but I won't say no to an ensaimada.
An ensaimada  can be either filled with whipped cream or without, just sprinkled with icing sugar. I go for the filled with cream type.  One ensaimada is sufficiently large to make two out of one. I usually cut it up and add some fresh strawberries which makes two tasty delicious sweets out of one ensaimada.
The ensaimadas originated from Mallorca.

They are yeast-based cakes fashioned into round, coiled shapes.I haven't ever made any myself as they are time-consuming to prepare, because the dough must be allowed to rise several times.
Some people like to eat them for breakfast, served with hot chocolate or coffee.
I have tried this and although I do not usually like to eat anything sweet for breakfast an ensaimada makes a delicious exception, especially if it is with hot drinking chocolate from the town of Villajoyosa (just down the road more or less, before you get to Benidorm).

I had hoped to post about my most recent make this weekend which was a bolero shrug I was making for my grand-daughter. Unfortunately that is out of the question now as I have undone the lot. I just totally did not like it.!   Nothing wrong with the pattern which was from Lion Bernat but rather my choice of the yarn which has made it very bulky. There's nothing spring like about the end product that I produced and it was to be for spring,so one whacking big failure ............pooh!

Hello and Welcome to my new follower Betsy at The Simple Life of a Queen, thank you so much for visiting and for your kind comments on my posts.

I also want to give a big shout out to all those bloggers who have not as yet popped in to visit Shari's beautiful blog called Kashmere Kisses, such an enticing name and its an exquisite blog indeed .
At the moment Shari is holding a fabulous giveaway which you really really should not miss!

Wishing you all a very relaxing weekend
