Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Spray, dry, seal and store in the open air

details at the end of my post

and that is exactly what I have been doing!!!

All the goodies for the giveaway have finally been sanitized placed in disinfected pouches and placed on a tray outside and Sr P has strict instructions not to touch or move anything.
I have to say I do feel a bit bad about not using papers bags throughout but I only had the two I have used for the Yarn and for my crocheted SaveMe fey.  I sprayed the paper bags too but I am not sure about how to deal with sanitizing paper or if it is necessary.  It gets to be confusing ..what is right and what is wrong...there is lots of advice on the web but which is right!

All this will go into a large yellow pouch which I bought at the Post Office. I was told by a very nice lady there that it is already sanitized, although just in case I shall spray that too the day before I post.

I am aware that it is essential to do this and happy to do so because I could never forgive myself if due to laziness or lack of consideration on my part someone should get infected.

Please remember you can continue to enter into the Fresh Start Giveaway up until 30th July and the draw will be held on 31st July. :-)

Ten months away from my blog!!  Yes it was as I have already mentioned but not away from my hook!!!   That would be just too much!

Over the next few posts I will be going back in time to show you some of my makes during Lockdown.
At the beginning of April after 15 days of Lockdown we were waiting to see if the quarantine would be lifted. I think most of us knew that it was impossible. The numbers were practically screaming at us to continue indoors!! This was when the command "Quedate en casa" (Stay at home) became the chant and logo of the Lockdown here. It is really amazing though just how versatile people are! The ideas my neighbours had to cheer everyone up in the complex were incredible. At 8pm in the evening someone would toot on a trumpet and everyone came out on their balconies to clap and applaud mostly to the hospital staff and the city services then the music started!!! There always has to be music and fiesta here ,the Spanish have it in their genes...without a doubt. The children's birthdays were not forgotten and and people would shout out Happy birthday to the kiddies and sing to them. They played Bingo from balcony to balcony and among other activities had fancy dress competitions and played charades.   Incredible!!!  Drawings of Rainbows were everywhere,on windows, walls and balconies.  I don't draw so good so I turned to crochet to make my rainbow of hope and placed it on my balcony windows.

I didn't make it small it was a good size sufficiently so for the children to see from their windows or balconies , You can't see the colours so well in this photo but I used the seven rainbow colours all bits of DK & Aran yarn leftovers in my stash. The rainbow & raindrops were freeform so there is no pattern for them but the sun and the cloud were from free patterns I found on pinterest. I shall have to hunt for them to be able to cite the designers name. I really enjoyed making the mobile...even Sr P said it looked nice!

This is when I was blocking the sun and before I put his smile on.

Do you know that here in this part of Spain they call the sun Lorenzo!!

If you go back to the photo of the goodies for the giveaway above and go to the top left hand corner of the pic you'll see a pack of brown label tags. Now why do you think I have included that ?? What do you think you can use those tags for?    The answer will be in my next post. :-)

Stay safe and keep well!!

Amanda :-)

  1. I'm sure that your packaging will be fine Amanda I think you can leave it untouched for 3 days and it will be ok after that, all those packages look quite exciting what a great giveaway. Your lockdown experience sounds heartwarming you must live in a lovely neighbourhood. Isolation really meant isolation where I'm living you rarely saw a soul unless you were out walking. I hope that we don't have a second wave and have to do it again. Your crochet is lovely, I made a rainbow too, it was lovely spotting them all in windows as you walked by. What would we do without our crochet to keep us sane! Looking forward to seeing what else you have to show us. It's so lovely to see you blogging again! Have a great weekend. xx

    1. Hello Dimi. The media has got a lot to answer for. I want to be informed as do most people but they are taking advantage of all this. The news is saturated with Covid scenes around the world and it is so depressing!! likewise :-) Amanda
