Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Cooler

It is a bit cooler early mornings now so I put my Sketchers on and....

went for a proper walk, first one since the end of June. What do I call a proper walk... a walk for exercise and not a stroll, stopping to chat to neighbours or window shopping. I still have aches and pains and I don't feel my normal self yet so I did half of the "The Road" (link back to my post about the "road") for starters.

I was pleasantly surprised to see  "The Road" has improved scenery wise since June.

The start of the road

It is still surrounded by factories, warehouses and other ugly buildings typical in an industrial estate but the vegetation has grown considerably and it hides many of the ugly bits.

I was going to take more photos of the scenery but I met up with my neighbour C along the way and her adorable dog Syla, the Schnauzer.

Such a friendly little girl!  It is so lovely the way she wags her tail as she sees me coming and gets excited that she sees a friend. You can see from her body language that she is eager to come up and greet me but no she is well trained and waits beside her Mum until I get beside them and then she snuffles up to say hello, for a pat and a scratch under her chin.  She doesn't jump up at all either just nice and proper. After her welcome she then gets down to business and she brings her ball up and drops it at your feet.

She will love you forever if you throw her ball for her again, again and again!

Arabella's jumper

My great niece's baby Arabella in New Zealand has finally received the jumper I crocheted for her which I posted about here.   She isn't two years old yet but it seems she is a big girl for her age and although I calculated for a 24 month old it only just fits her. Next time I shall make sure it will be too big for her as sleeves can be rolled up.

I so love her sunglasses and her red wellies!

Arabella's Mummy has given me permission to use these photos she has sent me.

I so love to see that my crochet travels the world. 😀

Catching up

or...trying to!

I feel I am very behind with responding to comments received and posting on your blogs. I will put it down to the heat as I feel decidedly lethargic these days.

I have also had to go in and remove numerous "rubbish" comments that have been posted on several posts throughout my blog...sigh!

All your comments on the post "Together" have finally been answered should you wish to have a peek.   I am now going to start answering comments received on my recent post "What next"before I send in my new post and then I'll give into the urge to read new blog posts which I so enjoy but have had to restrain myself from doing. Well more or less as I couldn't resist Kathy at Compassionknit's latest post "Is this a theme" which was about bathing and grooming her cats and I had to post a comment.

 A Recipe

This is called Ensaladilla Murciana (Murciana salad) another dish my MIL taught me how to make. It is unbelievably easy to make and it is a delicious summer salad. It does have to be served really cold.

Sr P loves it but I do have to make sure there is plenty of crusty bread on the table.

 Ingredients:

1 tin chopped tomatoes

Chopped onion (about a quarter)

1 tin of Tuna chunks in olive oil (depends on the size of the tin. I sometimes add two)

2-3 boiled eggs chopped

6 Olives approx

Olive Oil

Salt

Pepper

Apple Cider Vinegar

Water

Method:  Mix all ingredients together in a glass bowl . Season with a little Olive oil, salt, pepper and vinegar. Add a little water if it looks too thick.

Leave in the fridge for several hours to cool. Add a few ice cubes if you don't think it is cold enough and enjoy!

 Happy blogging

Amanda :-)

    1. Thank you Kathy :-) At least the jumper fits but not for long. That is the risk though when making for a baby on the other side of the world and that postage takes so long to get there LOL! A x

    1. Hello Joy, She is such a good dog and loves to meet people. I have been trying to convince Sr P that we need a dog about Syla's size but he isn't keen as yet. A x

  3. Thank you for the recipe, it looks delicious.
Syla seems like the perfect little lady. Polite and yet playful! :-) What a sweet dog.
I'm glad the sweater finally made it but it's too bad she won't be able to wear it long. She's adorable with her wellies and sunglasses as well as the sweater.
    Blessings,

    1. Hello Betsy. Thank you for commenting . That recipe is really so easy and goes with lots of summery meals really well. Syla is a very well mannered sweet dog. I would very much like one like her or like your gorgeous dogs. A x

  4. Walking is good for body and soul. I was getting out early morning even though it is still super hot here. 45 C during the day but things will slowly start to cool down a bit from here on out. Looking forward to longer meanderings again. This country needs more trees to hide all the drab parts but sadly people just keep cutting them all down so they can pour more tar and concrete. It's frustrating and depressing. Syla sounds like a sweet pup. And I just LOVE Anabella's little sweater. She is adorable!

    1. Hello Tammy, Thank you for calling in and commenting. You are braver than me I find the heat here just too much for walking even early mornings so I stick to the pool during July and August. At present I can manage 30 mins walking that I hope will increase as the treatment starts working. I am all for more parks and green areas in this concrete jungle. A x

    1. Hello Kim, Part of its lovely but not so much when you go past the flyover. A lot needs to be done still in that area. I often see Syla and her Mum on my walk and occasionally walk with them but it depends if they are on their home route back. A x

    1. Hello Julie, Thanks for commenting. I must say I do enjoy making baby's clothes; small and quick to make. I am not one for a very large project like blankets my max is a baby's blanket. A x

  8. Arabella looks so sweet in her jumper. Syla is a cutie too - look how well behaved she is! I don't like dogs that jump up, especially big ones!
It's good that you can get out and about a bit again. We have a mini heatwave here at the moment - not up to your temperatures, but too hot for me! I'll have to brave it this morning though - I am meting a friend for a cuppa.
Enjoy the rest of your week
    Best wishes

  12. That sounds like a nice easy salad Amanda I will certainly try it. The little dog is so cute! meeting someone while you are out walking makes it extra special, I haven't had a lot of time to get out walking just lately I seem to be flitting all over the place, I do try to walk to wherever I'm going but it's either raining or time is short. Arabella looks so pretty in her lovely sweater but yes kids grow so fast, a cardigan I made for my grandson was nearly too small by the time he got to wear it such a shame. Have a lovely weekend. xx

Its complicated to do with my health issues. I hope to get back to it soon because I need the exercise. A x
