Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Girls on their way into First communion

Daughter Nº 1 and Grand-daughter Nº 1 have been invited to a friend's daughter's communion so they are away for the day.

If you have never been or seen a Spanish communion let me enlighten you to a few facts ....Spanish communions are like mini-weddings....the parents really go to town on this type of celebration, it starts about midday and can easily go on until the early hours. Its an expensive do! In my opinion.....no I won't give my opinion its not for me to criticize... this is my adopted country and I have to respect their customs and culture. I count myself lucky I have a wonderful Spanish family who I love dearly and I am getting the benefit of both cultures, my own which is British and that of my husband's which is Spanish.
Getting back to communions in Spain ... it comes from Spain being a Catholic country and a communion is an important event in a child's life here if they come from a Catholic family. In general it consists of the purchase of a special outfit for the child as you can see in the photo above, a splendid dress or little Admirals outfit for the boys. The ceremony at the church.....which is a bit long...but its nice to observe the excitement of the children, their fidgeting....trying to keep their pretty frocks or suits all straight and their twittering to each other and the parents chiding the children in hushed tones. Then outside, gifts from family, godparents and friends-no hushed tones then and in fact  it can get quite noisy. The next stop is the restaurant, photography session and then the banquet which can start about 3 or 4pm and as I mentioned before it can go on to early hours of the morning if there is music after the meal.
The children have a fantastic time!

THE FREEBIES!!!!!

Right now lets get down to why I called this post Freebies.

I have picked up on some of the comments I have read on my posts and also on other blogs where some bloggers mention they do not know how to crochet or they would like to learn how to crochet.  Anyhow I remembered I had received a pdf copy of this book from a friend awhile back ,which you can see in the image here. Therefore I thought it could be of use to someone, after all its just sitting here in my computer so I would be happy to send a copy to anyone who might be interested in learning how to crochet.

Although the title is Crochet Patterns for Dummies it is very informative and detailed and it is obviously focused on beginners and elementary crochet learners.

Should you wish to receive this copy, as I don't know yet if its possible to upload a pdf file to blogger and leave a link to this e-book for you to download, I suggest you send me your email address and I will send you the pdf file.  This pdf copy is not in colour...but the info is still all there.

You probably know this but just in case you'll need to have the Adobe reader installed to read the e-book.
 Adobe reader download here

There are no ties to this because this is not a blog giveaway its a freebie...  I have yet to look forward to thinking about and preparing my first blog giveaway.

Should any of your contacts be interested in this e-book too do send them along here...as I said no ties...they do not have to become followers on my blog to receive it.

  2. Hi Amanda,

How interesting to see day to day life in another country! I think that First Communions are pretty important to Catholics the world over. The celebrations here in the U.S. can get pretty elaborate as well!!

  4. Hi Amanda, thank you so so much for your very kind comment over at my blog (colour in a simple life) and welcome. Cleo had gotten so thin over the past few months that I knew it wasn't going to be long, and I'm sorry that your beloved pet is also showing signs of ageing. It's hard, but also a real comfort to know that their lives were long and happy. I hope Willie rallies for a long time yet! (he must love that warm sunshine over there).
I am your new follower and I look forward to reading more in the future.
    Best wishes
    Karen
