Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

I nearly didn't!!!

First of all I would like to tell you it is raining..... a gentle rain....a soothing rain not the angry stormy rain that sweeps away everything in its path. It is raining and the streets are being washed clean, the palm trees gently shiver laden with silvery drops of freshness.
What I see from my kitchen window!

I may not finish this post just now depending how long I can withstand the call .....the call that beckons me to go out...out in this blessed rain to breath,to sigh and enjoy what I call the good rain or as I always say to Sr P "La lluvia buena".

Later ... a bit later after my walk in the rain :-)

I am so excited!!! No, I am not going on holiday to Venice,Florence or Myanmar , as much as I would like to but I am waiting for a parcel to arrive very soon. Sr P has been looking at me rather strangely.....I actually suspect he thinks I am losing it !
I'm waiting for an order of yarn. Lovely home dyed yarn named Autumn and Lichen and all the way from Yorkshire. I nearly didn't order it you know when I saw the cost of postage to Spain which of course pushed up the cost of the yarn. However I just couldn't resist it and I have been really envious lately hearing about all the lovely yarns that other bloggers use, so I took the plunge. I also have this feeling in my bones that it is going to be utterly gorgeous.

My very first trial order is made up of :
DK Bowland Autumn
DK Bowland Lichen

DK Bowland Natural

All 100% Blue Leicester and hand dyed by Victoria at Eden Cottage Yarns.

It was really difficult to choose which yarn to order and it took me a long time to decide.
If you pop over to Annie's blog at Knitsofacto ,that is where I heard about Victoria and Eden Cottage Yarns. Annie interviewed Victoria, which you can read about here, and from that moment for me is when the temptation took over.

Many thanks for all your comments and for popping in to read my chatter. I read everyones' comments and reply to all of them....... in my dreams....sorry for being cheeky.....I really wish I could reply to them all.
However I heard in your last comments that some bloggers have a season for knitting and crochet, that some bloggers increase working on their craft in the Autumn, that I'm not the only one who sometimes gets a headache when drinking wine, that Autumn is creeping in fast over there in the Uk and Germany and that the leaves are beginning to change colour and its getting darker but its still hot and horrible in Florida and also still hot in Greece. That quite a few blogmates are taking part in the Autumn Glow swap and thank you to one blogger congratulating me on 200 followers. I know I'm at 200 followers but I think I'll wait to 250 to do my next giveaway. That way it is nearer to Christmas. I am also glad that my compliments to a follower has made her feel a great crocheter even though she says it was for just little while.
Finally I'll echo and totally agree with another blogger's comment that handmade is special!!!

Now then do I give in to crochet temptation again or do you think I should get on with some lesson planning???  :-)

Enjoy your weekend

Amanda :-)

  1. I love, love, love the yarn. You did a great job with the color choice. Although I am not fond of pumpkin colors, I really love the pumpkin colored yarn you chose. And wine gives me a headache, too.

  2. Such a lovely post. You will love that yarn

  3. It's crochet for me over lesson planning! I hope that you enjoy the new yarns - the colours are gorgeous. Jx

  4. Give in - do some crocheting while thinking of your soon to arrive parcel. Blow the school work - just think on your feet - it's much more creative that way. It's been pouring down here or rather tippling it down. Certainly not the weather to walk out in.
    Love from Mum

  5. Oh, gorgeous, gorgeous choices!! Definitely fall colors :)

  6. What a ridiculous question - get on with that crochet!!!!!

I, too, find postage costs a real bind. But I just can't get either yarn or fibre for spinning any other way.Looked like rain here this morning and it was COLD! But the afternoon was fine and sunny and warm...

  7. That yarn looks scrumptious Amanda, does one have a plan of what one is actually going to do with it, or is one just going to gaze at it, stroke it and then decide ha ha. I would be doing the lesson planning first, get it out of the way then you can sit relax and crochet with a nice glass of something or even a cup of tea. :)

    1. One has a plan Linda :-) I plan to use it on me....hopefully a jacket for me!!!
Are you sure you aren't Gemini Linda...because that is exactly what I do get the irksome chore out of the way first!!

Thanks for popping in and for your nice comments as always :-)

      A xx

  8. Waiting for a yarn order to arrive is like waiting for a baby to be born. Love the colors you picked, bet you can't wait to get started. I'm jealous of your rain. Sounds lovely.

  9. yarn temptation....!!!!! I know that feeling and I drool a lot when I see a lll the beautiful yarns in Blogland.....Very hard to find them in Indonesia!!!! sigh!
    xxxxxx Ale

  10. Gorgeous yarn. It looks so soft. Looking forward to seeing what you will make xx

  11. I love the colours of the yarns you've chosen. I some how feel you may have been tempted by the crochet addiction and not done any lesson planning. Have a lovely week.

  12. Oof, pictures of yarn just make me swoon, I love the orange and green and you know that Orange is the new Black don'tcha Amanda :o) You know I'm sure you can get Netflix in Spain and if you can get Netflix then you can watch that show....I've finished it now, don't know what to do with myself. Happy crocheting in the rain lovely xxx

  13. You are going to LOVE your yarn! Can't wait to see what you do with it :)

Thank you for the links Amanda :)

  14. Good Morning Amanda, I know how it feels, to experience that first gentle rain. Everything smells so fresh and clean. Did you go for a walk in the rain or did you enjoy looking out at it instead.
I would do the lesson plan first, because if you started crocheting, it would only be on your mind and you wouldn't enjoy the crocheting.
    Enjoy your cooler weather.
    Best Wishes

  15. The colours of the yarn are absolutely beautiful, and just right for this season when the green of summer gives way to the orange and brown of autumn. I wish I was creative enough (and patient enough) to knit/ crochet garments. I get bored too quickly!!

I think I would do the lesson plans first (while complaining loudly!) before doing the nice stuff. I try to keep all my planning to one day, usually Monday, so I can feel very virtuous for the rest of the week. Luckily, quite a lot of my lessons don't require a huge amount of planning - yippee!!

Wine doesn't give me a headache. I just go squiffy, giggly and then I fall asleep! I sometimes wake up the next morning with a craving for Marmite though!

  16. Love the colours you have purchased, the names fit so well!! I think that crochet/knitting is an Autumn/winter thing for me...I have even got a crochet book from the library to give it another go!! Looking forward to seeing what you make with this gorgeous lot!! :)

  17. What gorgeous colors! It would be very hard to not start on that right away but do the lesson plans then you are free to work with your lovely yarn. The weather here in Tennessee USA has turned cool this weekend and the windows are open and the air is wonderful. Great sleeping weather! I don't drink wine so that's not the reason for my headaches. :)

  18. Mercy, that yarn is absolutely gorgeous. You will enjoy every single stitch! :)

Thank you for your comments. I do read them and try to reply to all as well. Please keep them coming. Amanda :-)
