Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Me Me shawl

I certainly finished this on time and that's a fact!!!!

I wore it yesterday to work at 7:30pm as it was freezing cold out and it wasn't much better either when I finished class at 2:00pm but at least it kept me snugly warm.

Blocking into shape on Thursday

These are the mountains I can see in the distance from my window and it snowed yesterday morning which doesn't mean it snowed here in the city but the icy cold today is telling you it certainly snowed nearby.

Taken from Costa Blanca News

Being Sunday morning lots and lots of Alicantinos will be traipsing off up to the Carresqueta mountain to see the snow. Personally I'll pass on that I shall be off out for our Sunday morning walk somewhere nearby where there is no snow.  As you can see it is a beautiful morning this morning...taken 32 mins ago ... courtesy of https://www.facebook.com/AlicanteCity/?fref=ts

Back to what I call my Me Me shawl. I have never made myself a shawl!!!   I have started to make one for myself umpteen times but somehow they got given away usually to a member of the family.    I am sure you know what I mean :-)

It is big  and cosy!

I think what I really like most about this shawl other than it was very straight forward to make is the edging.  I particularly like it! It stands out!  What do you think? :-)

This Me Me shawl is really called a Penelope Shawl and was designed by Carolyn Christmas and I downloaded the free pattern from here . I have used Katia Planet yarn which is Aran 10 ply and a 4.00 crochet hook.   It took me about a month to complete. I am sure other crocheters will be able to make it in less time. I can only crochet in my spare time and there never seems much of that.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Amanda  :-)

PS: I did have 229 followers but I see 10 have flittered away. It is a bit baffling but I am inclined to think this is Blogger tidying things up as I have read on several posts that other bloggers have lost followers suddenly in the same way too!

  1. I must admit...I love shawls..the brighter the
better! Though in Sicily the elderly, widowed
ladies wear them, and always in black!
But! At weddings all colours are worn! As it's
a BIG festive occasion, for everyone! :).

And, l love panoramic views. Anything really,
the bigger the better...! Even more so with snow!

Re the Bloggers...Last year l disappeared off the
followers list, onto the end, the blue squares...
And, so did you Amanda...Your at the end, in a plain
blue square, you used to be with the others, at the
front with your photo...It's Blogger..well Google
run it now, that faff about with it..!

    1. Yes!!! one of the things that most impressed me when I came to live in Spain first of all in 1973 was all the little old ladies in black all wearing black shawls sitting on their wicker chairs in the street chatting away and crocheting!

so nice of blogger to put me at the end!!!!

      A xx

  4. I adore your red shawl! I made one for myself to wear over Christmas and into Valentine's Day that I love, using alpaca and silk mix. I also lost 15 or 20 followers overnight.. it's something Blogger did.. it's disheartening. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. Your shawl is beautiful, Amanda, and I especially like the edging! I can imagine you being warm and very stylish as you wear it...in the sometimes snowy Alicante area! Blogger posted an explanation I read and immediately forgot...but it has something to do with commenters needing to have a certain type of address? Wishing you a happy creative week! xx

  9. Happy Sunday Amanda! Your shawl is stunning. I love the color and the edging is perfect for it. I just gave away the one shawl I had planned to keep for myself. I have made literally dozens of them and they all disappear...onto someone else's shoulders. Ah well, as long as they are used and loved by someone. I had never thought about your area having much snow. Your photos are absolutely beautiful though. Dennis and I love the ocean and would love to live near one. Blogger. I lost several followers too. A few didn't like that I was sharing personal stuff on my blog and wrote to tell me so, but some just disappeared. Oh well. I have the people who care about me still there.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. Missed so many of your posts
Amanda. Its a lovely shawl. And that edging here in India, is a unique feature of a place called Kutch. The embroidery stitch which looks exactly like this is called kutchi design. Its intriguing but it looks exactly like this.

    1. Curious Aishwarya how the edging so looks like the Kutch embroidery stitch I wonder if the pattern designer Carolyn Christmas had seen it and was inspired by it. I particularly like it! Many thanks for your comments and visiting my blog :-)

  16. Your shawl is so beautiful and the edging is really special. I do like it a lot. I have several shawls that are mine and I wear one of them almost every day. The weather here in Northern Germany is a truly 'shawl-wearing' one. Have a nice weekend, Viola
