Hello to my new follower! Welcome to Crafty in the Med my personal blog where I share my love of craft, particularly crochet and anecdotes from my daily life living here in Alicante,Spain. Please feel free to comment.
We haven't been able to get to the beach these last three Sundays. I so miss my swimming and doing a bit of snorkeling. The sea is such a healer and it makes all the aches and pains in my legs just disappear. My doctor actually prescribed swimming as one of the best all round exercises for RLS and for lots of aches and pains. He also told me that swimming in the sea was by far the best option.
As I mentioned in my last post Sr P has an ear infection and he has been prescribed antibiotics to deal with the infection; the doctor told him the beach was off limits until the infection had gone.

Sr P really loves his snorkeling he has done it all his life as he was born right in front of the sea and I mean as in.... five minutes from his parents house ... across the sand and into the sea.

The first Sunday he started the treatment he only gets all his gear ready in the morning for us to go snorkeling and to the beach.
I swear Sr P sees himself as a 70 year old superman!!!
He is in fact in very good health and has generally no problems at all. He weighs the same as when he was 20 years old when I first met him and he eats whatever he likes and does not put on weight!!!!! (I assure you that really bugs me......fresh air alone makes me put on weight!! ).
I immediately put all the gear back in the cupboard and reminded him what the doctor prescribed.
I am sure you can imagine that did not go down well.
He did throw a bit of a wobbly about it (I of course used the in one ear out the other strategy) I believe I heard vaguely as he was mumbling, stamping from room to room and slamming the bedroom door something about about doctors exaggerate, grown man being told what to do and sea water is better than antibiotics, while he let off steam. Meanwhile I made him a lemon cake, which he is partial to for later and got changed picked up the car keys popped into the bedroom and asked him if he was ready. We spent the morning strolling through the port on to the Santa Maria Church and the old quarter (Sr P's neighbourhood) where we had a chat with some old friends sat outside a cafe having tapas.

A very enjoyable morning!!
You see he knew I was right but he was not going to let it go without a bit of a rant!
I dedicate this to all the wives/partners of 70 yr old supermen out there in blog land. π

In case you haven't noticed Paula at The Snail Garden has returned to blogland and has posted a beautiful and interesting post called "August Outings".
Kathy at Hummingbird Woodland Studio has,due to tech problems, retired her blog and started a new one called My Artistic Endeavours At The Lake
I just felt like doing some crochet doodling when I made this RAOCK months ago.
I had no real plan in mind at that time but this is what my hook produced. A key tassel and I'd say that face and head-dress is pure carnival.
What do you think? Does it remind you of something else?
I used a NΒΊ 2.00 hook for this make and Katia Brisa silky cotton but I don't think I will use that thread again! The threads split up far too easily and too often. A choice of fabulous colours though!!
Have a good week
Keep well
Amanda :-)
Good morning, I really enjoyed your post-so awesome you live near the beach. back in the 70s I lived walking distance from an ocean for a short time-I loved it! but sigh I never learned how to swim.
ReplyDeleteMy husband is 74 soon to be 75 so I enjoyed your story. Mine sadly has fought health issues since a child but never lets that get in the way of life things.
thank you much for the shout out for my new blog-I appreciate you sharing.
Enjoy your day-hugs Kathy
It was my in laws who lived right by the beach unfortunately that was some time ago. We live in a new complex now but it is still pretty near to the beaches ;about 10 mins by car. Even in winter I go for a paddle....the sea water really helps and it is very soothing. My dream is to have a house on the beach!! A x
Deletethat would be amazing! I loved the years I lived on the beach
DeleteThere is nothing more annoying than a husband who does not put on weight, I have one here. I on the other hand I have great difficulty to shift even a pound.
ReplyDeleteLove the crochet.

Tell me about it Briony!! It is darn right indecent that he never puts on weight!! A x
DeleteI think it's a man thing, not acknowledging that someone else knows best. I'm always telling my husband that if he just listened to me, he wouldn't go far wrong. He still doesn't listen to me, though! Your key tassel reminds me of a drag queen - in a nice way I might add! Colourful and a bit OTT! Stay safe. xxx
ReplyDeleteOTT meaning over the top....too much bling you mean? You are actually spot on that is exactly what I thought of when I had finished the main body part. The headdresses those Drag Queens wear in the carnival are always very extravagant. A x
DeleteGood Morning! You had me laughing out loud about your husband and his mumbling about doctors and sea air. I think he's related to MY husband right down to the weighing the same as when we met and he was in the Air Force. He thinks he can still do everything he did back then! Meanwhile, I fight for every pound.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing your photos. You live in a lovely part of the world and I can't wait to start traveling again someday.
Blessings,
Betsy
Hi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteI love swimming in the sea. Seawater is medicinal. I wish you a cure for your illness. I love your braids.
Many thanks for calling in to my blog. Seawater is indeed medicinal. I have been giving training courses in a world renown company called Quinton who deal in Marine therapy and sell purified sea water tonics. Really interesting! A x
DeleteHaha men always know best but deep down he knows it's for his own good, he's so lucky not to have put on weight at all obviously all that snorkeling has kept him fit. I love swimming in the sea too but it's much too cold to swim in the North sea although some brave souls do it here every morning in all weathers! What a beautiful Church it sounds like the perfect morning. I think your key tassel is lovely bright and cheerful. Stay safe, I hope you manage to have that swim soon. xx
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky to be able to swim in the ocean. I hope your husband's ear gets better so he can resume his beloved snorkeling. My pool closed due to covid and it broke my heart. It's been bad for my health I can tell you. Have a lovely week. OH.. what does RAOCK mean? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteI must admit i am fortunate to have the sea so near. We are both sea people too because I come from a small costal town in the uk.However I am sure you have beautiful forests something I miss terribly! RAOCK = Random Act of Crochet Kindness. It is the Facebook group I belong to. https://www.facebook.com/groups/906834113017980/about/ A x
DeleteI love to swim and play in the waves. But, my husband is only terrified of a few things and one is SHARKS. We have never seen a shark. (well, once on our honeymoon and it was a baby little thing) . I am not a bit afraid. This is a total flip for us. Thank you for letting me know about your friends blog!!!
ReplyDeleteThey say there are sharks in the Med but I have never seen any. I did see a shark in Australia in the clear beautiful pacific ...not so big though. I saw one in the Canary Islands and I was out of the water in a shot!! I was later told that it was a nurse shark who are harmless. Jeez! Oh! yes I thought next time I will stay around to check it out....phew!! keep well A x
DeleteVery tactful of you! Hopefully it will all clear up soon and he can resume his favourite activity.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos.
Thanks for calling in Joy. We were hoping this Sunday but it looks as if the weather is going to be against us!! It has got really blustery and cloudy not ideal for snorkeling as the sea is quite rough. Keep well Amanda x
DeleteI love swimming as well. I live about 15 by car from a beautiful beach (though it could be a million miles away now that we are back in lockdown) and this is my favorite time of year to bath, when the air is a little cooler and the water still warm.
ReplyDeleteAmalia

Thanks for popping in Amalia :-) It has been very blustery and the sea is pretty rough to go snorkeling so we haven't been to the beach. Personally it does not have to be sunny for me to go swimming once I am in the water I am happy but if it is rough best not to risk the currents. A x
DeleteI do hope your hubby can return to the water soon Amanda. That church you visited looks so amazing - I just adore those old buildings with history. I hope the lemon cake did the trick for you.
ReplyDeleteI hope we can soon but seems storm Alex is on its way here and the sea is too rough for swimming. Santa Maria is a really interesting church the oldest church in Alicante . I much prefer it to the cathedral which is majestic but does not emanate that aura that Santa Maria has got. A x
