Lets start at the beginning
a very good place to start.....yes.. I am a fan of the Sound of Music.
The new arrival is finally here!! Let me present to you SBB Lorenzo II from the Worldwide renown free range breed of Spanish Bravo Bulls.
His Dad,who you can see in the photo below, is the Great Lorenzo I so as his first born he becomes Lorenzo II .
....his Mum calls him LoLo!
His Mum and Dad are so very pleased that as he is an exceptionally rare blue breed of Toro Bravo he will never have to go into the bull ring but happily he will become a RAOCK special! LoLo will be transported first class to the UK to live out his days with a new friend and a loving family.
For those of you who are visiting my blog and this post for the first time RAOCK is the acronym for Random Act of Crochet kindness. This is a facebook worldwide public group that has become extremely popular over this last year and has now over 16,800 followers. It is really amazing how such little acts of kindness and the smiles they produce can brighten people's lives.
Olivia the creator of this group says:
"This is a group for anyone that wants to share an act of kindness, it's mainly for crochet but if there is anyone that has gone out of their way to make another person smile, I want to hear about it! Let's build a community of kind acts, and make the world a bit lighter and brighter!"
Sunday mornings
Last Sunday week we went further afield up into the mountains above Benidorm to the picturesque towns of La Nucia and Polop de la Marina. It is really a lovely area of the Alicante province and we particularly like the markets that are held every Sunday there.
Polop de la Marina |
We like to go first to the home grown fruit and vegetable part of the market and stock up. The products are cheaper and of much better quality than down in Alicante city. We also like to buy the local honey and the sausages that La Nucia are famous for:
Morcilla black, white and red sausage |
I prefer the red sausages myself but Sr P likes all of them. I usually use the Morcilla black to make lentils stew.
This area is surrounded by the beautiful Aitana mountain range and as it was such a wonderful sunny day I took a few photos.
These photos are particularly for Kathy at Compassion knit. As you can see Kathy it is greener...not Wisconsin green but Mediterranean green.😁
Hello to my new follower!
Welcome to Crafty in the Med my personal blog where I share my love of craft, particularly crochet and anecdotes from my daily happenings living here in Alicante,Spain. Please feel free to comment.😊😊😊
Have a great week
keep well and take care
Amanda :-)

ReplyDeleteA.
Oh my, Lolo does have his father's look. Polop de la Marina is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSausage in lentil stew sounds perfect!
Doesn't he just...ha!ha!! Polop is a beautiful place one of the star villages hidden among those mountains and hence a tourist attraction....normally! Just the right time for Lentil stew. A x
DeleteI am sure LoLo will be much loved in his new home. You have some lovely countryside and beautiful towns near you.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
He will be Ellie especially with his new friend who I hope will hug him daily. Thanks for popping in!! A x
DeleteHi Ellie...many thanks for popping in. LoLo will be going to my little great nephew's home. He asked for a Spanish bull....:-) A x
ReplyDeleteLolo is an extremely cute and a very handsome bull and thankfully looks nowhere near as ferocious as his Dad haha. Polop de la Marina looks like a very picturesque village, I would love to go to the the market there it sounds amazing such beautiful scenery. xx
ReplyDeleteLoLo's Dad is all show I assure you Linda...he is a real softie really!! :-) The markets there are one of the best in the province. They also have a flea market which follows on from the fruit and veg one. A x
ReplyDeleteLorenzo Junior is very cute. He'll be much loved by your great nephew. Those mountain towns are good ones to get home produced items in the markets. They remind me of the ones in our Italian region and I miss visiting them. All the best, Linda x
ReplyDeleteI think I'd rather cuddle Lolo than his Dad, even if he is a softie! I'm sure your great nephew will agree with me. xx
ReplyDeleteHello HH! Pretty sure my little great nephew will agree! Those Bravo bulls are something to see;majestic, aggressive and incredibly brave but they are free range or in other words wild and left to roam on the wide-ranging ranches. They are not friendly!! A x
DeleteBeautiful area-and I love your Lolo so sweet. I have a friend that crochets I will refer her to that site-we need to all spread kindness when we can.
ReplyDeleteI would love to visit that market I grew up with farmers markets that sold everything but when I moved away from my hometown never lived near a good market again. that's the best foods too- hugs
Thanks Kathy! My grandfather was a farmer and I was brought up in a small farming community. I remember my summers at my Aunty's farm some of the best holidays of my life. I used to love going out in the mornings and collect the eggs for breakfast from the hens. I remember once I made the mistake of trying to take the eggs from the broody hen...oh!my! did she go for me and chased me out of the coop...ha! ha! A x
DeleteLoLo is a very handsome bull! I'm glad to know that he will not have to fight.
ReplyDeleteThose sausages look delicious, and that town is beautiful. The terrain reminds me very much of the Western US.
I wish they would abolish bull fighting totally. It is still allowed in some parts of Spain. Thanks for calling in A x
DeleteLoLo looks amazing and will be well loved, I am sure. He has a kind look about him!
ReplyDeletexx
Thanks for popping in Joy :-) Lolo looks happy he will be off to the UK soon! A x
DeleteLolo will be perfect for his new home. Such a sweet blue bull. Thank you for the photos of your beautiful part of the world.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Thanks Betsy....LoLo is so glad that a lady from Washington State USA thinks he is sweet!! He was on his best behaviour the day I took his photo. A x
DeleteLolo is cute as pie! What a wonderful mountain city.. I'd love to see a closer look of the architecture of the homes and buildings. Thanks for explanation of RAOCK.. I need to do some of that. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Teresa. I will try to remember to take some photos of the interesting buildings when we next go through the town itself. I can send you an invitation to join the RAOCK group if you would like :-) A x
ReplyDeleteHello Amanda,
ReplyDeleteI have come to your blog from Meredith's Mereknits and it is a lovely greeting to see your beautiful landscapes and travel photos from Spain. I have been sent numerous postcards from Benidorm over the years but never saw the hinterland and surrounds that you have introduced to me here.
I have also been a crochet addict - past tense because I have had limited opportunities to pick up a hook lately but the love is always there. I love your cute bull toy! Very smart-looking. I hadn't seen the acronym RAOCK before but am a fan of random acts of kindness even if it is just to smile and say hello to a stranger to make the world a friendlier place.
It is nice to get to know you better through your blog. Cheers from Australia :-)
Jodie
Hello Jodie Thank you for calling in to say hello and to see my blog. I found that in comparison some of the Mediterranean terrain is very similar to the Australia, especially some of the coastal areas in Queensland. Benidorm is about and hour away from Alicante City where I live. I don't like Benidorm so much as it is very touristic but the coast line is really beautiful and up in the mountains behind the town it is impressive. I do sometimes turn away from crochet and do some cross stitch or stick something together but it isn't for long! :-) As for RAOCKs I think we need these little gestures more than ever now whether it is crochet or other! If it helps to make some one happy even if it is for a moment then it is worth it! I just don't know what else we can do to push away the doom and gloom that is engulfing us daily!! I will pop over to your blog tomorrow (tomorrow here in Europe :-)) and also get to know you better as well. keep well Amanda x
DeleteLorenzo II - you are so funny! Seriously, RAOCK is a lovely thing, the world needs a lot more kindness. Your photos are gorgeous, what an incredible landscape. x
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was blessed or cursed with a vivid imagination, somewhat over active at times Mrs T :-) I totally agree there should be an abundance of kindness about and more so now during these strange times! Little things like RAOCKs can really help in more ways than one. A x
ReplyDeleteLolo is just adorable Amanda .. you have done a gorgeous job of creating him. I love the colour also. Your scenery pictures are always so stunning & those blue, blue skies are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie! I must admit I did enjoyed making LoLo :-) A x
ReplyDeleteAmanda, THANK YOU FOR THE PHOTOS. They are spectacular. I love the one that looks a bit like our ZionNational Park mountains. Beautiful town from afar photos. THANKS
ReplyDeleteThanks for calling in Kathy. I have googled the ZionNational Park Mountains...impressive indeed!! A x
