Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

What next!

 Well I never!

Actually I had heard about these games on the TV. They seem to have become quite popular in Madrid but I thought it would take longer for them to appear in the provinces. I must say I have mixed feeling about these sort of outdoor games not really my "cup of tea" if at all it would depend who I had in my team. I see it isn't very expensive either.

I marvel at how some young entrepreneurs have unleashed their creativity during these hard times where lack of employment is rife and have built businesses for themselves. Many could learn from this!

Giving it a little more thought these type of outdoor city games could also keep a lot of young people out of mischief and perhaps there wouldn't be so many "botellones"(large street unauthorised parties where all they do is drink, dance and destroy public and people's property as well as having a blatant disregard for the Covid restrictions.) causing so much trouble mostly at weekends and provoking the spread of further Covid infection!

This is one of the events that will take place in December 2021,here in Alicante City. I think they have to find "the Ripper"!

RAOCKs

Random Acts of Crochet Kindness.

Still not been able to make a RAOCK as I ahave been crocheting that Christmas gift which I mentioned in my last post. It is well under way so I think I can have a moment or two to make one of these gnomes to leave out for someone to find.

Aren't they cute!   I am itching to make one!

 New on the plant stand

Another pot Sr P picked up for me from the local supermarket. Sr P tells me he doesn't have the time to ask for the name of the plant as he has too much to do...excuse me?... and what does he have to do I would like to know! He is as retired as I am!

Once again, I would be grateful if any of you recognise this plant could you give me the name of it please. I can find out the rest by Googling.

It does brighten up my stand!

The Petunia is doing well I nicked off the head of the dead flower and I have been watering it and keeping it out of the direct sunlight but no more flowers for the moment. I did have a chat with it...nicely like and perhaps there will be a few more flowers soon.

Treasure Tales are on hold at present!  I have to dig out some of the family relics from the spare room storage cupboard which is bulging at the seams!  This means I have to drag out the boxes and hunt through them to find those bits and pieces. I know they are there but I cannot remember in which box. It is still too hot to do that so I am going to wait until it gets cooler.

Happy Blogging

Amanda :-)

    1. Hi Kathy Thank you for calling in and for commenting. That is right those street games are a competitive type of drama game and you compete against other teams and if you find the villain you can win a prize. A x

    1. Thanks for popping by. I dont think this first gnome I have made will be much good on the Christmas tree it would probably tip it over. I made it with some leftover aran weight yarn and it has turned out rather big,in fact bigger than my hand. Still I'll put it out as a RAOCK and leave it for someone to find. A x

    1. Thanks for the plant advice Radka. I have decided to treat it as if it were a "busy lizzie" because I did find some images on Google similar to this plant. A x

  4. I love those gnomes...so cute. I also think it's wonderful that Sr P picks up plants for you at the grocery. It shows that he's always thinking of you.
The games look interesting. Anything to keep people from big parties these days.

  5. Those gnomes look so cute! I think your plant is an annual Busy Lizzie or Impatiens, I love them they are so bright and cheerful, well done Sr P a great choice. I bet the murder mystery will be good fun, I have taken part in one before many years ago, they do lots of them here but not on the street as far as I'm aware. Have a great week. xx

    1. Thanks for calling and for commenting. I am treating the plant as if it were an Impatien and it seems to be doing ok. I have finished my gnome not quite like what you can see in the image I posted here but similar. A x

  7. I agree with a couple of the other commenters - impatiens or busy lizzie. There are lots of different kinds, but that's what the flower looks like. I love the little gnomes - they are indeed very cute. At least the murder mysteries look like they are outside - the best way to be with others and still keep safe is to be outside.
    Best wishes

  9. Can't help on the plant name, sorry, but by the sounds of it, others have identified it for you. The murder mystery game looks fun, but I'm not sure I'd join in! I prefer watching on TV or reading them. The gnomes are so cute. If you do make one (some) I know they'll be snatched up and treasured. Hope your health continues to improve. xx

    1. Hello HH, I don't think I would join in those street games either. It is popular at present to give out as a birthday gift and do it with a team of friends. Gnomes are slow to make again. I am using wool and the heat makes it difficult to use. A x

    1. Hello KSD, Thanks for stopping by. Really! At present as I can't get out for my walks and also being able to take photos of different areas of the city I find my posts are a bit mundane! Thanks all the same :-) A x

  11. I'd wondered if the plant was a vinca but the petal arrangement is not quite right - my next thought was a periwinkle (Madagascan) although others are saying impatiens - good luck!

    1. Hello Kate, Thank you for this advice . I will check these out online, more than anything it is the watering that I worry about as the sun here is so strong plants shrivel up and dies so easily. I am sure you know all about that though having lived in a hot climate. A x
