The first place that came to mind.

Lazy darning light bulb momentπŸ’‘

Sr P's old tatty but precious jeans... which I dare not chuck out!

He has been helping out at a friend's restaurant and somehow got bleach down the front of the left leg. They really need to go into a vat of dye but that just isn't worth the expensive as they are far too old. He won't buy a new pair though he likes his old faithfuls! That man does hate shopping for clothes. Therefore I turned to lazy darning once again and snakes were the only thing I could think of which would cover more or less the streaks left by the bleach.

Sunday outing

As we had no plans to go to anywhere in particular for our last Sunday outing we went to the first place that came to mind (my mind)which was Busot up in the mountains. We hadn't been there for quite some time, years in fact.It is usually a bit cooler up there so I took a cardigan. I didn't need it! The photos will tell all!

BUSOT is approximately 19 kilometres from Alicante City. The name BUSOT means place in the Woods as Busot used to be situated in the middle of a massive pine forest. That,I imagine;must have been quite sometime ago though as there is not much of a forest there anymore ...more's the pity!   All the same it really is a lovely little town and the views are fabulous!  I also have to give it top marks for how clean and neat it is. Absolutely no litter at all. The streets and houses are so well looked after. You can see the people are proud of their little town.

Can you see what I mean about it all being so tidy and so clean?

Looks like Sr P got his skates on again because you can see him way up there nearly at the top of the street.

At the top of that street we saw this sign and of course we had to go up there.

This is the reason I did not need a cardigan!

I was huffing and puffing well before we got to the viewpoint. The pathway was well dotted with pine trees...so at least some of them survived.

The view at the top took our breath away ... the climb up there too 🌞

You can see for miles!

On our way back down.

and there was a castle...the remains of one actually.

Well we weren't house hunting up here even though it is so beautiful and the view is sensational. Our goal is definitely to stick to the coast. We both are very much coastal creatures. Nevertheless it did briefly pass through my mind that I wouldn't mind living here in Busot.

Worth the wait.

It has taken one of my orchids months to show signs that it could produce buds and a few months more to finally see them bloom.

It was well worth the wait.

Yes another suncatcher.

This one is for my sister's bedroom window in her new flat.

As is usual you can't see the sparkly bits in the photo but they should make it twinkle in the sun.

I was told to use various shades of pink and a touch of purple.  I think I have managed that.

Restore and revive

About makeovers and reviving stuff .

Do you remember the mirrors I was giving a makeover to last month that I posted about here .  I got one completed but I had been dithering over the other. I had thought to paint it in a totally different colour but I hesitated not very convinced. I just couldn't seem to settle on what colour,in my mind's eye none seemed to fit.  Do you know what I mean?

That grubby bronze colour looked so dismal. I thought perhaps white but I couldn't see it was going to look good. I finally decided on keeping it bronze but a lighter shade of bronze and with some extras; a few highlights to spruce it up a little.
I always like,if possible, to use the bits and pieces I have accumulated. You know those bits and pieces you pick up and save for moments like these. πŸ˜

I have this gold glittery thread which I bought to use to make some Christmassy things last year and it was there on the shelf and I thought why not...

so with a layer of glue first I pushed the gold thread into the groove between that bubble like border around the mirror.
I think it looks good and adds a little more sparkle.

The top of the mirror is a little peculiar and rather drab so I gave it a few touches of silver and reddish bronze highlights and added just a few pretty shiny beads.

It looked better but it needed just that little something else!

I rummaged around in my bits and couldn't see anything that would enhance the makeover of this mirror. That is until I looked through some of my Gran's bits of crochet and I found a single little light Ecru six petal flower crocheted in very fine lace thread and the tiniest of stitches . It looked vintage and it is vintage I suppose considering my Gran passed away in the 1970s and she must of made it before that.  I thought it was a bit flimsy to sit on the bottom of the mirror and I could imagine the petals would start to curl up over time. Then I had this light bulb πŸ’‘moment and picked up the bottle of clear nail varnish that I use and I smothered the flower in the nail varnish.  The flower dried in just a few minutes and it was surprisingly quite stiff!  I finished the flower off by gluing a sparkly reddish bronze bead in the centre.

There you have it!

What do you think?

DOILIES.

The mini-doilies I posted about in my last post have now been now completed.

I just have to finish a larger one which is really a mandala which I hope my niece will find of use for her coffee table...perhaps🌼

Little one revived.

I found this little one looking in a rather sorry state in a local supermarket and it had been reduced in price. I really dont think it had much life left in it.  Anyhow I bought it,watered and put it in a cosy sunny place by the window and it has come back to life again.

I have looked on google but as yet have not found what plant this is. It has lovely furry thick leaves which remind me of primrose leaves but thicker.

Please don't  tell me it is a weed!

Hats and hats

Oh! but it is dark out there today! It has been like that for several days now.

I swear it wants to rain but can't!

The sky was a strange amber colour two days ago and I thought there was going to be a massive downpour but that didn't happen.

This is at the esplanade in front of Alicante port but I assure you the sky was like this throughout all the city and in Murcia (the next province)as well.  The weatherman announced that the high winds has brought a winter "calima" sand storm to us from the Sahara to these shores.

It was quite eerie looking!

Fast Darning
Some of you may remember that I mentioned in a previous post how I use Fast Darning to repair Sr P's well worn jeans.

from December 2020 post

Actually it was Kate on LiveLoveCraftMe who recently posted about her creative Boro mending that she had used to repair a favourite shirt of hers. That reminded me that I had recently done some more Fast darning on another pair of Sr P's jeans.

This time in the shape of a car.

Instructions:

Cut out shape on patch, iron on and "Voila" Fast Darning completed .

PS: I predict that car patch isn't going to last very long as those jeans are super tatty now. I think they are destined to be thrown in the bin pretty soon!

By the way I have changed the name. I called it Fast Darning in my previous posts but Lazy Darning sounds more appropriate as it is quite lazy...isn't it?

It started at one hat and then...

I am diligently trying to reduce my stash of yarn.  . It started off with a bonnet that I decided to make for my great niece Arabella in NZ for the winter.

A very simple bonnet and I didn't use a pattern. I just kept measuring it as I went along as I wanted it to fit a big two year old. I used leftovers of worsted weight yarn and a 5.50 hook

I often post my crochet projects on FB and my sister saw that bonnet and wanted a bonnet too. Which is fine so I made a second bonnet.

Again I used leftovers of worsted weight yarn and Aran variegated yarn to add a touch of colour. I had to again keep measuring this one as this was for an Adult size.

Then I remembered I hadn't made the slouchy hat for Cookie (GD) that she asked me for so I got cracking with that.

The slouchy hat pattern was from a Yarnspirations free pattern which you can download from here . I used Katia Planet Aran yarn for that and a 5.00 hook and some leftovers of  a colourful variegated yarn. I also added a little heart patch.

I managed to convince Sylvester to model for that. He wouldn't model for the bonnets as he said they were for girls and that was sissy!

I finished that and then my sister saw that one as well and wanted a slouchy hat too.  I am now on my fourth hat but my stash doesn't seem to be dwindling very rapidly at all...sigh!
