Spring clean itch

Seeing Betsy on her Simple Life of a Queen blog has just reupholstered her dining room chairs has reminded me that I had meant to give my dining room chairs a thorough clean.

As it is such a miserably wet day today this does seem to be just the right time to do this little bit of spring cleaning.

I unscrewed the seat pad and gave it a thorough clean and then smothered the chair in scratch repair oil and left it for a day to soak in. The following day I gave it give it a good rub over with kitchen roll.

Scratch repair oil

Nice and clean, just five more chairs to go!

Mirror makeover

Was it really two years ago when my friend was redecorating her flat and she was going to throw out these two mirrors that she had in her hallway! They were a bit tatty but I asked her to give them to me. I hung them in my hallway thinking that I could give them a makeover to spruce them up a little. Now time has certainly flown by and I have been meaning to do it but I got so used to seeing them hanging  up in the bedroom corridor that I ignored them completely. It wasn't until the other day when I was having a video chat with my sister in the UK and we were looking at mirrors for her hallway that it reminded me that my two mirrors continued to look very shabby.

I sat down with this one with my buttons tub and my glass beads and bits basin by my side and tried this and that until I picked out what I thought could look good.

The original green, pink and bronze colours on the mirror frome had faded quite considerably so I thought I wouldn't change the colours at all just spruce those colours up a little. The frame was like a sort of chalk stone material so looked at what I had in the way of paint pens and I picked out a bronze one to use. As there were no other matching colour pens I thought I would try using crayons.

I then added a bit of sparkle to the very top of the mirror with a large bronze button. Yes that is a metal button and one of my prized button possessions as I have never seen any button like that before. I assure you I did hesitate about using it but it does look good there.  I put a few pink gems under that at the top and the bottom of the mirror too. The photo hasn't picked up the sparkle very much but they do shine.

I then added some little seed pearls to each side of the mirror.

It looks much better and not such a shabby mirror anymore.

I have the other one to do as yet. I keep looking at it and am not sure about giving it an old gold look or paint it white and then go from there

It certainly needs to be brightened up a bit!

Slouchy

Another one finished. All ready to go to the UK to keep my sister's 👂👂 ears warm!

Once again Sylvester kindly modelled this hat.

I really don't know what is wrong with Sylvester, he has quite an attitude of late!

    1. Thank you :-) Those chairs do scrub up nice actually and then all I need is a soft cloth to occasionally dust them down. That's it for the moment though my cleaning itch has been scratched. A x

  8. Wonderful job on the chair, it looks new now and the mirror is beautiful. I would never have thought of using crayons and buttons to spruce it up. Now I look forward to seeing what you do with the second one.
The hat is lovely too. Each time we think spring has arrived here, winter comes calling again. It's snowing outside right now but I know it won't last.
