Waiting for the plumber! I do wish they'd give an approximate time of when they are going to call in. 

Water started dripping down from under our apartment (we are 1st floor) yesterday and so we have to check it out if it is us or not. I think it is because I see water has accumulated in the bottom of the drum of my washing machine.  This last year it has been nothing but problems with the sink and washing machine pipes. 

 

 

I shan't be smiling if he keeps me waiting all day!

 

 

 

RAOCKs

Random Acts of Crochet Kindness Group.

I do like to think my RAOCKs travel around the world so I have sent this keyring across the pond to the USA to Kathy at Hummingbird Studio at the lake.  She has finally received it! 👏

 

The  Paseo del CoCó (Coconut Walk) is finally finished and was opened last week.

It is a small stretch of land and coastline which follows on from the Postiguet Beach promenade (the city beach). 

It was just a long dirt track quite narrow in some places behind some of the old coastal railway lines. It had become popular for people to use it as a shortcut to the Albufereta beach defence wall Walk which links up further along with the Alicante City coast road. 

Well they have modernised this eye sore and it now extends the Postiguet promenade further along the coast to join up with with that Albufereta Beach wall coast Walk.  

 

 

 

 

I must say over the last 20 years the city council has constantly been improving the public infrastructure with new roads,parks, promenades,walks and most particularly bicycle paths and so on. It looks so much better and cleaner since I came to live here with Sr P in 1975. 

Sr P is particularly proud of his city (very much a city lad) and often says to me lets go here I heard they have restored this place or converted it into...bla bla ....this etc. I never tire of this there always seems to be something different or new.

It was very busy last Sunday and people were thoroughly enjoying the new Walk and of course as no cars are allowed any more they didn't have to dodge the cars trying to get through either.

 

On the left you can see the old railway buildings they are fenced off at present. Lets hope they are going to do something about tidying that area up and getting rid of all the graffiti on the walls.!

They have converted this part of the Walk into a play and keep fit area.

This is where it joins up with the Postiguet Beach promenade.

On the left of the Walk you have the Mediterranean in all its picturesque bluey green glory! 

 

 It was a wonderful sunny morning. 

 

 I even manage to get a shot of Sr P (very rare) trying out one of the new snazzy coloured benches.

I have never seen such colourful benches before and look a red litter bin too 😃

 

I have given it some thought and finally I have come to a decision!

 I like the snazzy benches and litter bins 💃

 

It now has a name!

Before I forget I also wanted to tell you that the Park I took you to a few Sundays ago in this post here ,which I mentioned was called Park No Name has finally been named (they must have heard me criticising)!  It is now called Parque del Mar (The Sea Park).

 

Doubts:

 As always I do very much like to use natural remedies rather than buy a bottle. I have been reading about using egg shells as a plant fertilizer.

 

They also mentioned that this type of fertilizer can be used on orchids but before I risk the health of my precious orchids (I have three I spoil lots!) I would like to ask you,the Green Fingers bloggers, your advice.  What do you think about using this on orchids?

Hello Australia 

The ban has finally been lifted as of yesterday I am allowed to send post to OZ!!   Whoopee!

I have been checking this PO list periodically during eleven months...waiting....waiting... and waiting...and finally Australia has returned to the list:

 

The jug cover I had  completed for my niece back in  July 2020 had to be put on hold as I couldn't send it to her because the Spanish postal authorities had closed down all their postal routes to Australia. I wrote about this here .  

It is now on its way to my niece in Point Vernon,Queensland.👏

My family in Australia do not feel so far away now !

 Las Puertas de Alicante (The Doors of Alicante) Nº2

One of my twerky hobbies is to take photographs of doors not just any door but doors that have character. Some of you already know this as I wrote about this hobby of mine here.

 As we cannot leave the city due to lockdown,on Sunday morning I suggested to Sr P that we could go for a walk in the old town so I could take some photos of doors. I always enjoy a walk in the old town with him because as Sr P is from there he has so many anecdotes to tell me about when he was a boy running wild (he did too...my MIL told me lots) with his school mates in those streets. 

This door is circa 260 years old! 

Palacio Maisonnave

What they would have called a Town Palace built by a rich merchant family and curiously an Irish family called O'Gorman. It is situated in a very narrow street in a popular area of the old town; nowadays surrounded by restaurants,cafes and souvenir shops. It was built in the 18th century in the baroque style and over the years has been used for many things other than a palace.

This is the other door of the Palace. The entrance for coaches and horses.

These Palaces usually had a centre court in the middle of the building where there was a garden and even a stable.  It is big inside! !

Other than doors I do like taking photos of door knockers. They are splendid but unfortunately the antique ones have become very collectable now and fetch a high price.  This has provoked the theft of many from the old doors in the city and even from the doors in the little towns and villages in the province....such a shame!!  

I found it difficult to take a photo of all the front of the palace as the street is so narrow.   In 2001 the palace was purchased by the Town Hall but due to lack of funds it took them 10 years to restore it to its present state. In 2010 it opened its doors once again housing the Municipal Archives and offices.

Orchids

 Bless his heart Sr P didn't forget!

My husband gave me this gorgeous pot of Orchids for St Valentine's day. Red roses are fabulous but Sr P knows how much I love Orchids.

Day after St Valentine's day 

I am a day behind with my hearts!  still...never too late...right!

 I used Anchor cotton in Red and a  Hook 2,50     

A Free Pattern from a fellow blogger Anabelia Craft design which you can find on her post Granny Squares Hearts. 

 

I have dropped this RAOCK heart off this morning and placed it on a bench in front of the school which is near our place.  I would like to keep dropping off RAOCKS around the school area so the children get used to these finds and come out of school looking for them. I am being very cautious because I do want to remain anonymous so I have to do it without anyone seeing me!😊

Very Naughty bloggers!!

Today is Saturday 14th July 2012  and being under the throes of a rather wicked humor and also being as you may have noticed I am a rather outspoken person.  I have to comment that there are some VERY NAUGHTY BLOGGERS out there who have been tempting me to lay down the THREE MAKES I should be finishing and try my hand at some of the tempting ideas they are flashing at me as I discreetly flitter through their blogs .....just checking that they are well you know no more.! The CULPRITS are to name but a few:

• Linda at craftycorner.....who has been trying her hand at amiguriumi with her  Kokeshi girl and very successful so!

• Shari at sharicrochet  and those gorgeous bunnies in their school colours who are so unbelievably cute.

• Karen at my4lilgirls inventing new patterns with great success I'd say and with a colour combination that goes so well together.

• Poppy at Poppyview....who inspires me to turn my house around or at least the living room and COPY (yes Poppy I said copy) some of the ways she has to enhance and decorate her home.

• Lucy at inthesky ,who makes me drool as I look at the colour of the yarn she is spinning ,yes I said spinning as in spinning wheel spinning!

• Missy at  Edith Florence diary   who is starting some patchwork which I have been thinking I really must try my hand at..... but........yes groan,......yes I have three makes on the go.

and there are so many many more temptations out there on the blogs I follow and I visit so if you feel like you hear a slight huff,or tut or stifled groan it is me lurking on your blog,perhaps not commenting but looking and suffering.....oh so much!

As ethics must be respected should anyone here dislike having being cited please do comment and I'll delete in a jiffy and do sincerely apologize in advance.

After all this stress I felt I needed a gentle soothing from this bout of temptation and turned to a floral remedy which I had spied at the Benalua street market this morning. There she was the most perfect Moth Orchid  in all her glory and I couldn't resist buying her at the price of 11€...personally I don't think that is expensive,do you?  In fact I bought one for daugher nº 1 too.

On returning home I hummed and harrd quite a bit, wondering where to put my new acquisition as I considered this exquisite lady needed a special place. All this was being observed by Sr P who found it all very funny (as in funny looney) who agreed that she was lovely but couldn't see what the fuss was about where she should be placed...why not by the draining board I hear....easier to water, so he says ...tch!!! ...men!!!!)

The girl at the stall said, (one I have been to for many years and I constantly return to when I am in that area. The girl who is now a married woman with children certainly knows her subject and guided by her I have rarely gone wrong where interior plant care is concerned) she had to be in plenty of light but out of the direct sunlight (remember we are talking about Mediterranean sunlight) and out of draughts of course.

Inside ....sun-blinds are down so light is not so good. I don't like using a flash.

to keep her in my living room where I can see her in all her glory as I put my feet up on the settee.  Then there was the little problem of the correct pot to place her in . I had nothing her size nor of what I would consider of sufficient elegance so meanwhile I put her in an old glass ice bucket that I had in the back of my sideboard and I rather like it.
I've also put a strip of filet crochet that I had it my samples tin (those samples are my patterns not the written type) and I like the effect too so I think I might do a piece of filet crochet in white instead of the yellow to take its place ...what do you think?
