Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Not quite right II

I have been feeling a little under the weather these last few weeks.

Over the last 6 months approx I've had recurring stomach problems. I thought perhaps it was stomach flu or similar that hadn't cleared up properly.  However towards the end of February it came back again and rather more severe this time so very reluctantly I decided to speak to my doctor who sent me for some tests.  Last Monday my doctor phoned me and gave me the results of those tests which were really good so my doctor said all but one was negative; Covid test included. The results of that one test she said wasn't so good she said she believed it could be a sign of intestinal inflammation. Mind you that doesn't surprise me a lot considering the ups and downs I have had with my tummy lately!  Therefore she is sending me to the specialist... what joy!... Not!   This Monday she phoned me back to tell me what had been arranged with the specialist. Due to clinic conditions at present (Covid) the specialist doesn't want to see me face-to-face as yet but wants me to repeat that one test again on 8th April. I have been given an anti-inflammatory diet to follow and I hope that will reduce the problem and the test results will be negative.   If not I have to go for other tests to find out more.

Unfortunately my mood affects my crochet:

I got fed up with this hat which wasn't going right and I have frogged it! I always feel irritated after frogging a make...sigh!

Sunday morning

We were going to go up into the mountains this Sunday to see the almond trees in flower but I woke up with my stomach grumbling again and didn't feel like doing much at all so we went for a stroll around the No Name park(parque sin nombre). Strange name right...but everyone is calling it that because the council still haven't given it a name and it was opened about 5 years ago!  Bureaucracy is so slow here.   It has been awhile since we went there and it was a little dry and sad the last time we went but now it is looking really lovely. It is situated down under the Port flyover very near the San Gabriel beach.

It is right beside a very noisy road which does not deter the birds at all as they were merrily serenading the coming of spring.:-)

There is even a mini waterfall and I could hear some frogs croaking in the pond.

The play area. There were quite a few people stretched out on the grass enjoying the mild weather.

It is like a haven tucked away from the busy, bustling city.

RAOCKS (Random Acts of Crochet Kindness)

I have been crochet doodling again😊 A Little Easter chick just hatched...ready to go out tomorrow smile searching.

I made this chick taken from a pattern I used when making chicks for my pupils quite awhile ago as seen on this post here. I used Katia Cotton Stretch and a 3,00 hook so it was quite a bit smaller than the chunky chicks I made in the past.

SPRING FEVER

I think I have the start of spring fever as I am getting that urge again to clean, patch up and renovate things in the home!

I have started by digging out a pot of the paint that was used on the walls in my daughter's bedroom which is really the spare room and has been for years now but in my mind it continues to be my daughter's room.  I always make sure I keep a pot of paint of the paint used in the different rooms so I can patch up any scratches or marks that have appeared overtime. The paint has weathered well in that room but all the same I have noticed there is an area beside the door which is grubby and soap and water wont get rid of it. A couple of swipes with a paint brush will :-)

😁

One day a week

Reorganising myself

I commented the following to Joy at Diary of a retired teacher on her Tuesday 17th November post

a nice uncomplicated day. I hope to achieve that too today :-) My plan is ( I have informed Sr P) to fill my backpack with a few essential things get out of here by 11am and walk, walk and walk.. no planned destination. Sit down somewhere nice and crochet....and walk some more. I need to disconnect from house work, planning meals and cooking. It seems I have been allotted the full housewife role since I retired and it is plain boring!!

I did this! It was great! I set out along THE ROAD (remember this is where I don't take photos see my post here to see why) and I ended up at the Palmeral park where I decided to take some video shots of the park to post here. A bit ambitious of me but blogger does allow for inserting videos.  As it is these video clips didn't work as they were too large so I have to work out how to compress the video files on iMovie.

Hey Ho!!! Another learning curve!

I did take some photos though!

It was a lovely sunny day with just a smattering of clouds floating across the glorious Mediterranean blue, blue sky.

It looks as if the Palmeral park is a cat haven because I sighted and counted 7 cats as I was walking through the park. They all looked plump and healthy so it is a good hunting ground or someone is feeding them.  They were not inclined to be sociable but perhaps that is best really!

After a walk around I sat down to munch on a couple of crackers I had bought with me for a quick snack.  As I was munching my snack I listened to this little chappie who was chirping away energetically practically in front of me!  I think he was telling me to clear off!

Well he won! It was time to go.

In all, this walk took me about 2hours 15 mins and I walked 7 and a half miles...that's my record at present. I have planned to do a lengthy walk once a week (not counting Sunday morning outings)...the other days I have to settle for a tight hour. (as explained here).

  Disappointing!!:

I am frogging the baby blanket!! It will just not do!!

This was Baby's mother's first choice!

A mosaic crochet free pattern from Yarnspirations!

I was pleased with Baby's mother's choice because I am very keen to try out mosaic crochet following the advice and information I have received from Linda's posts at Linda's Crafty Corner. Her many wonderful mosaic crochet projects have inspired me to try it out.  I have read all the details she posted for us about Mosaic crochet so I thought that this was my chance to go ahead and try Mosaic crochet.   In fact the little I have done hasn't turned out badly at all everything has gone according to pattern and is quite straight forward and looks nice.

The pattern itself was going well.

What was the problem then?

As I was crocheting I could see that the weight of the blanket was not going to be ideal for what baby's mother wanted. She asked for a blanket or shawl to wrap baby in and I could see that this mosaic pattern was producing a thickness that would be ideal for a cot cover,a floor play rug or a pram/pushchair cover but definitely not a baby wrap blanket.   Luckily Baby's mother chose 3 different blankets in all so I was able to go on to the second choice. It isn't a mosaic pattern but at least I was able to practise mosaic crochet in the first 5 rows of the first pattern. I shall certainly try again though

RAOCKs - Random Act of Crochet Kindness

Two RAOCKs flowers finished ready to be sent to the UK to my niece. As I am still reluctant to put them out to be found here I have asked her to give them to her two girls to give to their teachers or let the girls leave out to be found there.

If you are new to my blog please go to the link above to find the explanation on RAOCKs.

KEEP WELL and HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND
