2012 Olympics LONDON
Very quickly adding a brief comment about the IMPRESSIVE opening ceremony which I have just watched on Spanish TV.
Do you know billions of people all over the world were watching the opening ceremony this evening? The Spanish TV commentators have said that they have never seen anything like it before and they have done nothing but praise the fabulous choreography, the 15,000 volunteers and London itself.
London the host of the 2012 games has done Britain proud this evening!

My goal was 80 followers and I'm there
so I happily present to you my very First Giveaway WHY DO WE PREFER CERTAIN COLOURS?
Psychology today states that Color preferences are deeply rooted emotional responses that seem to lack any rational basis, yet the powerful influence of color rules our choices in everything from the food we eat and the clothes we wear to the cars we buy. For some people, owning a green car is unthinkable. These shoppers will gladly pay hundreds of dollars more to obtain the vehicle in a different color, or they will reject the green car and select an entirely different automobile in a color they favor. We all do this even though the color has absolutely no influence on the performance of the automobile. Yet oddly, someone else will feel exactly the opposite about buying a green car. These individuals will gladly pay a premium to purchase a vehicle in the shade of green they adore.
and....colour preferences and the choice of colour is vital to crafters!
I'm inclined to believe this when I look around me ..in my home...the decoration, the colour scheme, the colours I instinctively turn to when buying clothes or jewellery and of course when choosing yarn and fabrics.
In my case I am always drawn to green and orange.
According to Viewzone , people who are drawn to green do so because it stimulates a restful, secure and balanced feeling. Green is regarded as a great harmonizer, capable of creating a balance between positive and negative emotions. People who prefer green almost always are capable of seeing both sides of an issue, have a strong moral sense of right and wrong, and tend to be idealistic.
The Colour Wheel indicates that orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.
By now you may very well be asking yourselves what has all this got to do with my first giveaway well its all involved with one of the conditions to participate in this giveaway...nothing complicated I assure you.
The following are the conditions to participate in this giveaway:
- for one entry you must describe why you are drawn to or prefer certain colours and be a follower on my blog;that means I need to see you on my Google Friends connect list and likewise I shall connect to your blog as a follower if I have not already done so.
- for a second entry you should copy and paste my Giveaway image (at the top of this post) and link to my blog on the sidebar of your blog OR give my giveaway a mention on one of your posts. If you decide to do this please comment on this a second time.

THE DRAW WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY 6TH AUGUST
And now the goodies
Fartons...and what are these you may ask......yummy sweet sponge sticks that are dunked in hot chocolate, coffee , milk shakes,ice-cream and in my case tea....a warning .....they can be addictive!
(for those of you whom I cannot send food stuffs to due to postal and custom restrictions I shall add what I hope will be a suitable alternative)
AND
Sorry its a bit dark will try to get another snapshot midday when I'm back from work |
which consists of a fridge magnet , spruced up a little by yours truly, crochet cotton Nº 8 in white and beige and a suitable crochet hook. A wad of 100 Euro notes( tissues :-) ). A hand painted Spanish fan ;made in Spain and not made elsewhere. A vintage doily from my treasured stash of vintage crochet, the centre is damask linen. A little bowl from Agost ,the pottery village,an hours drive away from here and a few other bits and bobs.
I have made the crochet cushion you can see here specially for the winner of this giveaway. The centre motif is crocheted in Nº 10 crochet cotton and there are 6 river pearl beads sewn in on each side of the main body of the square. It is all my own pattern and that is hand sewn onto the Broderie Anglaise frill and all that on to the cushion cover. The cushion cover is not anything special I'm afraid, I could not find what I wanted and that was a heavy ivory damask linen cushion cover. Its all hand sewn because I do not possess a sewing machine as yet.Never the less it is easy to transfer this square with the frill to a cushion cover of your choice and if you do I would love to see the finished item. The cushion filling is not included.
That's it dear bloggers ...just one more thing this giveaway is not really about how many followers I have got but a thank you...a very big thank you for your presence, albeit a virtual presence but very much there. Its to thank you for your comments, your ideas, your inspiration, your humor , your very interesting blogs and all you are giving me and most particularly those moments of interaction between reciprocal followers. THANK YOU!!!!
Amanda :-)

ENTRIES Nº 1 & 2
DeleteHi Amanda
ReplyDeleteGreetings this morning from a sunny Ireland (hard to believe it I know!!!)
Just back from holiday so trying to play catch up with the dreaded household drdgery like washing and ironing etc
but want to catch up with all my blogging friends too!
Love the idea of your giveaway, the goodies are fantastic
and so generous.
Back to your question -
In the summer I love turquoise and sea greens
always reminds me of blue skies and warm oceans.
In winter it changes and I love warm rustic shades of orange,
terracotta and all the lovely rustic colours.
Hope all is well in your corner of the world
am off to have a read of what I have missed.
Thank you Amanda for your lovely comments on my "creativity"!!
Have a great sunshiny day.
x Fiona
Hello Amanda, Now that is an interesting question. I find it difficult to answer because I am a colour junkie. Given the right day and the right mood, or the right situation, I like almost every colour, but not necessarily to wear, or to decorate a room in.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young I used to 'see' names in colour...to think, or to say a name, it was always with a colour in my minds eye. I was about 6 or 7 before it dawned on me that not everyone saw what I did...for example, my own name is a red name - which is interesting because red was not my favourite colour.
I have since discovered that it is a condition called synethesia, a sort of wiring crossover of senses within the brain and it can affect people in many ways. As I have grown older the effect has lessened, more is the pity!
It is impossible for me to answer your question, I have failed at the first hurdle!!
Our summer sun has gone again...boo-hoo.
xx
PS I'll happily put your giveaway on the sidebar of my blog.

DeleteHello Dimi,
ReplyDeleteBoth very lovely colours. I do like your sea theme on your blog and most of all the dolphins. Greetings from a very hot stormy Alicante
Amanda xx
Hi Amanda, Really interesting reading about the colours. My colour choices change depending on whether it's for the home or what I'm wearing. In my home most of the colours are very neutral with burgundy accents. For colours I tend to pick blues and purples I think this is because they are warm on me.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for hosting the giveaway, lots of lovely things.

ENTRY Nº 17 & 18
DeleteHi, Amanda. A very interesting contest. Hmmm, I guess my favorite color would have to be red, followed closely by purple. To me red is a happy color, a brave color, not afraid of anything. Red is an out there, in your face color and that's how I feel when I wear it. Purple, however, makes me feel cozy. I really don't know why because it is as bold as red but I feel comfortable in purple and peaceful. Weird, huh? I'm going right now to link your contest to my blog. I really love all the things you are giving away. Such a great group.

DeleteHi Amanda,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely blog you have:) It is really good to be in blogger-land where one comes across such beautiful and colorful blogs. Thanks for the inspiration and i am your newest follower!
My all time favourite color is RED. There is something about this color which spells life, love, energy, passion and energy. In my homeland India, red is also the color which symbolizes a married woman. She wears a red mark on the forehead known as "Sindur".

DeleteAmanda, what a generous Give-Away! Congratulations reaching your first milestone; it's been so nice finding other bloggers and learning about them. This is truly a wonderful blog and I know you'll double that before the year is out! XOXO
ReplyDeleteENTRY Nº 23
DeleteHello Amanda, how exciting to hear of your giveaway and what a wonderful stash of gifts. Your crochet work is very beautiful on the cushion.
ReplyDeleteColour is such an emotive subject isn't it and for us arty / crafty people it's very important. For ever since I can remember when asked my favourite colour I always say purple, it's rich, it's oppulent, it can be a mystical spiritual colour and I just love it. That said, i also have fads which come and go, possibly seasonally of other colours, Red with black, grey & white is a strong combination which features in my design work quite a bit. Had a chocolate with pink & pistachio phase not so long ago and then sometimes just a clash of all groovy, psychedelic brights will whoosh into my world. Actually, I seem to have covered lots of colours so it might be easier to say what I don't like, not so keen on wishy washy pastels.
Those sponge stick things look fab, have a good weekend. x

DeleteGood morning Amanada, I agree London did us proud last night I bet the atmosphere was electric in London itself. What a very generous giveaway Amanda and what beautiful things. I am a colour junkie I'm afraid I love most colours but the ones I am especially drawn too are greens, I find them calming and the colour green makes me happy, they are featured in most of my projects along with all shades of purple starting with the palest lilac down to the darkest purple, it's hard to explain why it just feels right if that makes sense. To complicate things even more I enjoy wearing red not the brightest shades but say a cherry red, it makes me feel energized and young (haha dream on)This is great fun Amanda and I wish all entrants the best of luck, as you know I am already a follower of your lovely blog and I will be pasting your giveaway image on my blog as soon as I leave here. Have a lovely weekend :)

DeleteI found my way here via another blog, and I'm so glad I did! Wish I knew how to become a follower and partake in your lovely giveaway. Tried but couldn't succeed. I'm NOT a blogger: just a fellow artisan. Will still share my fave colours and why. Same as yours, green and orange, how funny is that! Green because it's soothing, calming, the colour of trees, grass, flower stems, leaves, frogs.. it's everywhere. Orange for a reason that I heard many years ago; it's the colour of hope. I've always loved it, pumpkins, Fall leaves, marigolds my oma grew. Lovely day to you. Look forward to coming back already.

DeleteHi Amanda, what a lovely generous giveaway, cograts on reaching your milestone, I like to pop over here and see whats happening in your part of the world, so different to where I live! My colour favourites are greens, blues and reds, not really into yellows, oranges and browns, I find I am drawn back to similar colours in a lot of my crochet and crafty stuff.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day , Julie :)
ENTRY Nº 38
DeleteHi Amanda, congrats on reaching your bloggy milestone! But you pose such a tricky question! If I have to pick one colour it would have to be red. It's obviously the colour of passion and love, but also I once was a redhead! and it's the name of my crafty biz (Mahana Redlegs) and I love splashes of red about the house. Now those Fartons look pretty good, could they be used to make my favourite desert, tiramisu?! S:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining in Sally.
DeleteI hate to disappoint you but should you win I won't be able to send you the Fartons.....you know what its like where sending edible substances are concerned to New Zealand or Australia. However I'd add something else of course.

DeleteOoo I'd missed your fabulous giveaway! What gorgeous goodies, I adore anything Spanish so I'd love to win. Whenever I've been to Spain I always bring back lots of lovely pottery and other goodies stuffed in my case :-)
ReplyDeleteI adore bright colour and love lots of colours together like a rainbow. My favourite two are purple and bright pink which I love together but I also love turquoise, orange and red! I guess I'm drawn to strong colours as they are so cheerful and happy. Actually I'm not keen on green though, strange that.
ENTRY Nº 42
DeleteMy favourite colour...impossible question...depends if I am wearing it, looking at it and mood! I love brights mainly...Lucy colours, I probably don't wear enough subtle colours but who cares! Always loved all sorts of blues...even if my school uniform was navy I still like it. Sea colours, autumnal colours and naturals. When I had my business the logo was fuchsia and lime...so you could see it from the road, love that combination too! I suppose I am not as keen on girly pinks and purples on their own...
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your first give-away....I am quickly getting the hang of all this blog etiquette, I hope :o Fiona x
ENTRY Nº 59
DeleteYeah! Congratulations 103 Followers at the moment! What a great 'Give Away' how exciting. I have given you a mention on my blog with a link to your blog. I have a hard job choosing my favourite colours, I am very partial to black and I like it with pinks. I quite like deliberately garish colour clashes. I also love pink and green together a nice rosie pink with a sage green, it is very feminine, pretty and reminds me of 'Somerset Cottage Gardens'. Good old Dunster eh? I do also love 'Minehead'. It is probably not very 'en vogue' to admit but I think it is a great little town. :) x

DeleteHi Amanda!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to be able to spend a little time exploring your post! I just returned from a special time at the beach with family. The Pacific is big, blue and very cold. I had the fun of getting my feet wet and searching for seashells. Hopefully, later today I will be posting about my beach weekend.
I love the thrifty way you repurosed your pink robe. There's such satisfaction that comes when your can use something twice! Your crochet touches are delightful and so original!
Thank you for your generous giveaway, Amanda. So many pretty things...and, how wonderful to see things that are from where you live. I am getting excited about offering a giveaway when I reach my 50th post...and, you have inspired me, my friend.
Now, to share my favorite color...The one I am constantly drawn to...and, (big surprise)....IT'S RED!
Things that I love...
apples, cherries, strawberries....
polka dots, gingham, Rubies (my favorite stone)
cheerfulness, vibrance, energy
It's the highest arch of the rainbow...
the longest wave length...
A memorable, joyful day is often referred to as a "Red Letter Day".
I like the quote that "Painters use Red like spice" by D. Jarmen
And, lastly....
One of my favorite songs is "lady in Red" by Chris Deburgh....
It just happens that I was wearing my favorite RED dress the day that I met my darling husband!!!!
I hope you have a wonderful day, my dear friend!
Blessings,
Carolynn xoxo
