Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Get in line...

It is so hard to keep my rabble of thoughts in line ...they just bop off on their own... up and down, choosing different routes, moving away rapidly from my first train of thought.....to sum it up they are inclined to run amok. I don't always choose some of these thoughts... they sneak in unexpectedly but ........lets focus I tell myself......this is my mind and my thoughts...... so GET IN LINE!!!   I am going to start by tossing a few thoughts in the bin...the nasty ones are the first to go into the bin,the ones about COVID from global media can go in too,the crazy, nutty thoughts as well...I hesitate for a moment because I am thinking that it is good I can recover some thoughts from my bin as sometimes nutty thoughts are not so nutty!!

There you go I am digressing again!

Tomatoes are what I want to discuss at the moment as there seem to be a lot of talk about this fruit(google says it is a fruit). I can't say I know much about tomatoes except they cover a large part of my diet because I like them very much. I don't think there is anyway I do not like them that is why I freeze tomatoes so I always have some to make into a sauce, drink or gazpacho. I envy those bloggers like Mum's Simply Living Blog  Joy at Diary of a retired teacher and  Linda at A rich tapestry who have wonderful gardens and who have home grown fruit and veg...there is nothing compared to home grown!!

I won't belittle either those bloggers who have more decorative gardens like Ellie's in Feltbulous.

Come now surely we all know sitting in a beautiful garden relaxing with a cuppa tea and a chat( you can leave out the chat if you like, you reap the same effects or perhaps more) is good for the soul....good for keeping ones reason and for certain they are the saviors of all who have had a garden to enjoy during lock down.

One such garden also comes to mind from the glimpses given in Teresa's posts of her spectacular garden over there across the pond in Oregon. My..my, those heavenly flowers...nature's work of art!!! I could sit and sip tea all day long in that garden!!
Oh!.. and she has tomatoes too!!πŸ˜€

In answer to a few queries and comments I have received:

Spanish omelette  : Boiling potatoes softens the potato slices and makes it quicker to make the omelette but it does affect the taste. In the original recipe you can soften the potato as you are frying it by breaking up the potato with a wooden spoon bit by bit as it cooks.

New blogger interface: Kathleen at Making a Mark article gives details of several of the problems with the new interface. She will be updating that article mid August.

I am at present holding my breath the links will work in this new post I shall be publishing in a short while. I had no problem at all with the images I have uploaded here this time. I am aware now other bloggers have also noticed that it can take at least an hour for a new post to be updated in the reading list and the blog roll.

It is essential we complain and leave feedback. I have left feedback twice now. I haven't had a reply but it is registered there on Blogger.

I made this before the lock down in March.   It is a RAOCK and was left out for someone to pick up...which they did!😊

Your last post, the test didn't show up like this one is. I think it will take time for Blogger to smooth out the glitches the new versions created.

  3. I started making crochet hearts and stars for people to take, to spread a little love and hope, shortly after lockdown started. I hung them by my garden wall with a note to say "Please take". I received some lovely comments, notes, pictures and small gifts (including yarn donations). I keep thinking I'll stop now that things are easing up, but they're still slowly going. As long as people want them, I'll keep making them. We all need love and hope, especially at the moment. xx

    1. Very true! it is wonderful just how people appreciate these little gifts. I was immediately drawn to Olive's RAOCK Random Act of Crochet kindness group when she set it up at the end of last August 2019. It seemed such a lovely way to make people smile which works for the giver and the receiver. Could you give me your blog link please I can't see it when I click on the blogger profile link. keep well Amanda :-)

    2. Hi,Crafty in the Med. I don't have a blog (not sure how to set one up and don't think I've much to blog about anyway!) but enjoy reading other people's. I'll keep reading yours. xx

  4. What a beautiful flower! I love the idea of leaving bits of crochet happiness around for others to find. Another blogger, Tammy, leaves crochet hearts around her city of Kuwait.
I've noticed the beautiful gardens on blogs too. The gardens seem to be much more prevalent now, I think because people are at home now
Take care and enjoy some tomatoes,
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  5. Your blog post looks great, we're acing this new interface! Thanks for the shout out, I'm looking forward to being patient until my one tomato is bright red and having it sliced in a turkey sandwich. I love your special gift flower.. I need to do that. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  6. I just came from reading Teresa's blog post with the tomato! Our first big tomato is just starting to ripen. We've been enjoying grape tomatoes for a couple of weeks now. So much better than the ones from the grocery store.

Thank you for the lovely comments on my blog. I'm so glad you enjoyed the photos.

I love your crochet flower, and I'll bet whoever picked it up loved it too.

  7. I have not touched my crochet for ages but lately have felt the stirring of a new blanket idea growing quietly away. My random acts are usually socks and of course the masks that I make on a continous loop. Any scrap of quilting weight cotton that is large enough goes into the box, half of them get a covering of iron on interfacing and then they are sewn and have the elastic added in bursts of 10. I feel that the crochet hooks will be surfacing soon, I can see the colours but not the pattern. Love the flowers and butterflies, perhaps a flower inspired blanket with a few butterflies dancing about.

  8. I am glad I am not the only one with racing thoughts. I can't even seem to sit to crochet. I am up and out of my chair, going out to pull weeds, doing laundry. I wish you a peaceful day full of flowers and lots of ripe tomatoes.

  10. I've been meaning to say I made your Spanish omelette a couple of times your way. I don't boil my potatoes either but slice them thinly and fry so the method is familiar, but used more eggs than usual so it was a good result. I like your RAOCK. The colours are uplifting. I'm sure it blessed the person who found it and took it home. I hope you're having a good week. It's suddenly busier with our daughter here. Sometimes we sit and chat, sometimes we sit silently and just enjoy one another's company. My husband too. 😊

    1. The Sp omelette does take up a lot of eggs! I have often had to add an extra egg at the last minute because I can see it is breaking up. RAOCK's whether flower, butterfly or other are great for using up bits of surplus yarn. A good week thank you as my Cookie baby(grand-daughter) is coming to stay again for a couple of nights. 11. There's nothing wrong with a rabble of thoughts - just shows that you're alive. Hate the new Blogger interface. Love the RAOCK even though I forget what the C stands for.
