Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

One day a week

Reorganising myself

I commented the following to Joy at Diary of a retired teacher on her Tuesday 17th November post

a nice uncomplicated day. I hope to achieve that too today :-) My plan is ( I have informed Sr P) to fill my backpack with a few essential things get out of here by 11am and walk, walk and walk.. no planned destination. Sit down somewhere nice and crochet....and walk some more. I need to disconnect from house work, planning meals and cooking. It seems I have been allotted the full housewife role since I retired and it is plain boring!!

I did this! It was great! I set out along THE ROAD (remember this is where I don't take photos see my post here to see why) and I ended up at the Palmeral park where I decided to take some video shots of the park to post here. A bit ambitious of me but blogger does allow for inserting videos.  As it is these video clips didn't work as they were too large so I have to work out how to compress the video files on iMovie.

Hey Ho!!! Another learning curve!

I did take some photos though!

It was a lovely sunny day with just a smattering of clouds floating across the glorious Mediterranean blue, blue sky.

It looks as if the Palmeral park is a cat haven because I sighted and counted 7 cats as I was walking through the park. They all looked plump and healthy so it is a good hunting ground or someone is feeding them.  They were not inclined to be sociable but perhaps that is best really!

After a walk around I sat down to munch on a couple of crackers I had bought with me for a quick snack.  As I was munching my snack I listened to this little chappie who was chirping away energetically practically in front of me!  I think he was telling me to clear off!

Well he won! It was time to go.

In all, this walk took me about 2hours 15 mins and I walked 7 and a half miles...that's my record at present. I have planned to do a lengthy walk once a week (not counting Sunday morning outings)...the other days I have to settle for a tight hour. (as explained here).

  Disappointing!!:

I am frogging the baby blanket!! It will just not do!!

This was Baby's mother's first choice!

A mosaic crochet free pattern from Yarnspirations!

I was pleased with Baby's mother's choice because I am very keen to try out mosaic crochet following the advice and information I have received from Linda's posts at Linda's Crafty Corner. Her many wonderful mosaic crochet projects have inspired me to try it out.  I have read all the details she posted for us about Mosaic crochet so I thought that this was my chance to go ahead and try Mosaic crochet.   In fact the little I have done hasn't turned out badly at all everything has gone according to pattern and is quite straight forward and looks nice.

The pattern itself was going well.

What was the problem then?

As I was crocheting I could see that the weight of the blanket was not going to be ideal for what baby's mother wanted. She asked for a blanket or shawl to wrap baby in and I could see that this mosaic pattern was producing a thickness that would be ideal for a cot cover,a floor play rug or a pram/pushchair cover but definitely not a baby wrap blanket.   Luckily Baby's mother chose 3 different blankets in all so I was able to go on to the second choice. It isn't a mosaic pattern but at least I was able to practise mosaic crochet in the first 5 rows of the first pattern. I shall certainly try again though

RAOCKs - Random Act of Crochet Kindness

Two RAOCKs flowers finished ready to be sent to the UK to my niece. As I am still reluctant to put them out to be found here I have asked her to give them to her two girls to give to their teachers or let the girls leave out to be found there.

If you are new to my blog please go to the link above to find the explanation on RAOCKs.

KEEP WELL and HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND

Amanda :-)

  2. Sounds like an ideal getaway. I tried mosaic crochet recently, but didn't want to do it where you cut the yarn after every row - way too many ends to darn! I'll have another go soon as I love the look of it. Those RAOCKs are gorgeous. I hope the recipients appreciate the hard work and love you put in to them. And I love the little rhyme you put on them, I might have to "borrow" that idea! xx

  3. What a great idea. I love the thought of preparing a bag and just walking. Your scenery is so pretty for enjoying a walk. We have cold, gray and windy right now. It's 27F this morning. Brrr!
The mosaic blanket is so pretty but I can definitely see where it would be heavy. It's really nice that Mom picked out several patterns.
Your RAOCK flowers are gorgeous! Whoever does end up with them is sure to feel special.
I hope your weekend is lovely Amanda.
    Blessings,

  4. What a brilliant thing to do, Amanda, good for you! I love this idea of packing essentials for the trip - a camera, a crochet hook, maybe some chocolate to sweeten the journey?

  6. Good for you walking that far and enjoying your day. I have had it with housework, cleaning, laundry and pressure washing. That seems to be all I have been doing lately besides working. But I do have a husband that cooks and he made all of our Thanksgiving dinner, I only had clean up duty. Stay safe.

    1. It was a really relaxing walk even though I was quite tired on the way back. Certainly clears the cobwebs away! I just know how you feel about the housework I just don't see me spending my retirement years coking and cleaning....pheww!! A x

  8. That looks like a good walk with a nice park to rest and have a snack. A tropical looking haven with all those palms and other plants. I have tried mosaic crochet, but prefer plain patterns or granny squares as I can only do a little at a time before my wrist starts to ache. I admire your crocheting skills.

  9. That was a long walk Amanda well done! it looks lovely, I only manage 3-4 miles usually but am planning a longer one next week. I've never tried inserting a video yet so good luck with that, I'm sure it will be easy enough (says she who's never even tried haha) and well done on the mosaic crochet, now you can see how easy it is but yes you're right it will be a bit bulky, ideal for a cot cover or play mat but not as a wrap around blanket. (Thank you for the shout out x) Your flowers are beautiful! Enjoy your weekend. xx

    1. The little bit of mosaic crochet was quite easy but I think its keeping track of the count between rows and stitches is where I get easily distracted and so makes it complicated. A x

  10. Your RAOCK's are just beautiful Amanda - they will be well received I am sure! That was a great walk you did - good on you - I have been so slack in my exercise these past couple of months - I need to get back into some sort of routine. Your photos of the area & the park are so beautiful! Happy Weekend to you Amanda.

  12. Good on you getting all that walking done. I only did 5km today. I would love to just go out of the house in the morning and walk and walk without thinking I've got to get back to do everyday jobs at home. Maybe one day I will.
    xx

  13. 5 km is pretty good Mum!! Yes those everyday jobs!! I know what you mean and it seems they have all been assigned automatically to me because they were all waiting for me when I got back after my morning walk. If my husband was working I would understand but he is retired too so he can see to them once a week. I now have to get that across to him! :-) A x
