Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

Me too

I wasn't well after the second Moderna vaccination I had last Wednesday. On the Thursday I had a temperature of 38.5 and I felt very sorry for myself so I decided to take a day off and reclined on the settee all day. I couldn't even perk myself up to do some crochet. That is telling you how poorly I was feeling.  As a rule I like to avoid taking any medicine only what is absolutely essential like my thyroid pill but by mid afternoon I was feeling worse and felt quite dizzy so I took a paracetamol and that did help.  I also drunk loads of water and ate very little;toast and plain yoghurt. This is what worked for me. Three days later I was much better,no temperature  just a few aches and pains in general, a bit like the flu.

At last!

I finally received notification from the hospital yesterday and I go in for my test on Friday! In preparation for the test my diet has changed from the bland diet I was on to a "don't eat anything" diet until after the test. OK I am fibbing! It does contain some food of sorts but even less than what I was eating with the previous bland diet.  Big sigh! not complaining really... just wish it was all over and done with.

I am not sure how I will feel afterwards so I may fall behind commenting on your posts a bit over the weekend.

Meanwhile I just wanted to let you know in case you would like to check them out (optional😁) ,I have finally completed all replies to comments sent in on my previous posts Midday Sun and Splash.  Please do give a shout out if I have missed anyone.

The pool is open!

Temperatures have risen here, the pool is open and summer is practically upon us.

I think this is about the only photo I have of the swimming pool;taken a few summers ago.

Sr P making everyone laugh in his Calypso Joe outfit !!

Fire Festival

The children will be out of school for their summer holidays next week and as usual just before the yearly Fire Festival starts at the end of June. I commented and posted in the past about this festival here .  Sadly though the festival has once again been cancelled due to Covid restrictions. They are talking about having it in September instead but quite frankly I cannot see it happening.

I have posted a few photographs from the last festival held in 2019. It is such a very big event here that it is greatly missed and not celebrating it again for a second year has produced some "grumbling" in certain quarters!

Stunning parades !

The Alicantinas on their way to offer flowers to the Virgin at the Cathedral.

Beautiful displays of flowers on the facade of San Nicholas de Bari Cathedral, patron saint of Alicante. Flowers that  have been offered to the Virgen del Remedio who protects all Alicantinos from her niche over the main entrance of the Cathedral.

One of the effigies in front of the Town Hall. There are numerous others which are dotted throughout the city and they stay up for the six days of the festival. Constructed of wood and paper machΓ© they are elaborate works of art. On San Juan's night,24th June, they are burnt. The last one to burn is the the effigy that won the first prize.

Lets hope next year all these traditions will carry on as normal.

RAOCKs

My latest RAOCK.

Result of a bit of crochet doodling and at the same time using up bits and bobs of yarn and a few sparkly bits.

  1. Very imaginative RAOCK Amanda, really love it, you’re very clever to think and picture those, I’m thinking that if I didn’t have long list of things to make I’d like to try one.. but not sure I’ve wool left think it was all put out/donated in a big clean up, that room was completely remodelled that it was in.
Miss some of those things. Your fire festival is certainly a big display for the town.
So sorry the Moderna second jab was not fun. Seems the second vaccine jab of most of them is that way. I’m not getting it, not here since April last year.
We’ve been very blessed in country Oz. Pray all goes well on test on Friday and they find out your problem, and yes the diets are not fun for those procedures, had them quite a few times.
Thanks for your reply to comment, shared more of Oz again today, some folks amazed and some not keen on one of pickies! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Thanks for Sharing too, may God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

    1. Thank you Shaz :-) My sister in Queensland has told me that they haven't been vaccinated as yet either. Australia seems a bit slow with their vaccination plans but then I suppose being such a huge country it takes a lot of planning. A x

  2. Sorry you felt unwell after jab 2, but at least now it's done and you're as protected as possible. I think it's just the luck of the draw whether you get side effects or not. I hope the tests give you some answers on Friday. It's a shame all sorts of events and celebrations have been cancelled/postponed, but we all know it's for the best. Your RAOCK is lovely. I seem to have lost my crochet mojo at the moment. It WILL return, so I'm not stressing about it! xx

    1. Hello HH, I hope you have found your crochet mojo ... that happens to me occasionally not often as it upsets me not having anything planned crochet wise. Daft I know but its crochet addiction! A x

  3. Hi Amanda, good luck with the tests-hoping they will figure out the issue-have they ever tested for celiac (no gluten) I had to figure that out myself around 25 years or more ago. I had tests done and everything came back ok for digestion problems-so I decided I must be allergic to some food and it was gluten
Looks like a really nice pool.
I am glad my state of Missouri is fully open and to get that ill from a shot is not for me. just my own opinion of course and will probably have people after me-oh well-I am thankful we still have choices where I live. even big box stores no longer require masks here. I found no actual science that proves they work.
another really hot and humid day here and our septic project is close to completion except for the restoration crew-leveling and planting grass seed take care hugs

  4. I can sympathise - my second jab had more intense reactions than the first, but luckily only lasted a day, then I was fine. I had the Astra Zenaca. I told myself that the reaction was far better than getting Covid. I'm glad you are feeling better now.
I love the effigy photo - the Fire Festival sounds spectacular.
I hope your tests go OK.
    Best wishes

    1. Hi Ellie, The test came up negative just waiting for biopsy results. I was a little surprise to feel so poorly after my second vaccination as I weathered the first one so well with no side effects at all. All the same I would put up with this and more to be fully protected from COVID. A x

  5. Good Morning Amanda. I'm sorry your second shot was so much worse than the first. My second was also worse but only for about 12 hours and then I was fine. Diets in preparation for procedures are always miserable.
It's too bad the festival has had to be canceled yet again. Most things are open here now and masks are not required. Recommended, but not required.
Love your RAOCK. You have a wonderful imagination.
I need to get back to unpacking. I think our boxes are multiplying and having babies!
    Blessings and hugs,

    1. Hello Betsy. Always great to hear from you and glad you found a moment in your hectic days of setting up your new home. Your new home is looking so good you know! I thoroughly enjoy your posts! The festival has been cancelled but it seems part of the city population is having their own parties today which is a fiesta to make up for it and the beaches are packed. A x

  6. I'm sorry that you've been unwell with the vaccination reaction and the digestive problem. All the best for your test day and afterwards. It's a shame that your region can't put on festivals but
understandable in the circumstances. Thinking of you Amanda and family.

  13. So sorry to hear that you've had problems after your vaccinations. I had the Moderna jab too, and fortunately on both occasions I just had a stiff shoulder, which eased after a couple of paracetamol.
Denia town has Fallas festivals, in March, similar to the San Juan Hogueras. I've seen the models on several occasions and have marvelled at their intricacy and stunning designs. It seems such a shame to burn them!

    1. Hello CG. My first vaccination was a breeze but the second not at all. Never mind though the important thing is I have some sort of protection now. I feel like you it is such a pity they burn those wonderful effigies that they take ages to make and people pay for all year round to get it built. It is the tradition though as it is done to protest usually against local authorities or a particular famous person who has been in the news through out the year. It is all very satirical and political; a year's worth of criticism. A x
