Crafty in the Med

I am here to enjoy meeting other bloggers and to share my love of craft ,mostly crochet, my thoughts and my daily happenings here in Alicante,Spain, my adopted country. I belong to a local choir because singing and music makes me happy. Flea markets and book shops are two of my favourite places to be. I read lots......sci´fi/fantasy,buried treasure, and off world adventures. I have a passion for history! I walk and walk and walk for about 10 months per year during the hot months I swim.

  1. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them

  2. A lovely tribute to your Dad and Grandad Amanda. I remember my Dad too on this day he never spoke of his experiences, the only thing that my Mother ever said was he went through hell. he has the Burma star too. I found his medals in a little box after my Mam died they were still in their paper package as if they had been pushed in there and forgotten about the ribbons hadn't even been attached it made me cry. xx

    1. Thanks Linda. Dad didn't telling me very much either. It was in his later years that he told me bits and pieces especially about the Retreat from Rangoon....and the time he was with the Gurkhas. It fired my imagination and i have been reading and investigating about The Forgotten Army for a while now. Do you know what regiment your father was in ? Dad kept his medals in an old dolls box and never touched them until a few days before remembrance day each year when he would get them out to clean them ready to wear on Remembrance Sunday. I think quite possibly that the medals would remind your father of all the horror of what he went through...and it was horrifying!! A x

  6. I agree with the comments above - a lovely tribute. As generations age, it is more important than ever to show that sacrifices are not forgotten and that we are thankful for what so many people did for us to give us our freedom.
    Best wishes
